Edit: HEAT 100mm armor pen @ 2000m
Funny is how tracks are made of diamond dust on those tanks as well. All of it smells like unfinished physics for the models.
It's better to hit the Sherman's side with and AP or ABCBP shells since it ammunition is stored there and you have a better chance of hitting the crew.
What I do not understand how a "supposedly" 100mm @2000m penetrating shell hitting a 50 armor on shermans rear just does not tear it up (at distance of 30-50m) ?
Shells from shermans quite often go through the armor at 45 angle penetrating whatever is inside, doing a mini nuke in the middle of the tank and piercing the other side of the tank.
I don't want to believe this ♥♥♥♥, but this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happens not just once but constantly.
Historically, when the Sherman first rolled in the war scene it did outclass most of the tanks that were present at that time. It's front sloped armor can deflect most shots and it's cannon can heavily damage German tanks.
Usually the PzGr. 39 rounds does the trick. But unless you are driving the Panzer IV F2 or the later Panzer III tanks with longer barrels, you will have a hard time penetrating the armor directly. Hitting the Shermans side usually cripples it as it very flat and ammo and crew can be hit easily from there. Fire is the Sherman's weakness even in real life. Anything that can catch the tank on fire can kill it like an HE shell to the engine and fuel tanks.
When I used a Sherman and sit the middle of an Artillery Barrage, my chances of dying are significantly higher as even a shell that hits the ground can cause my Sherman to blow up as opposed to my Panzer IV tanks which need a direct hit to the hull to be decimated by the artillery. This is one of the reasons why I loved the German Tanks more.
You can penetrate the turret to hit the gunner and stop it from firing for a while if you where to hit and where the gunner is found. You just need the right penetration.
And don't worry. Once you get the Panzer IV F2 or the Long Barrelled Panzer III tanks, your should finally be equal to the Shermans and T-34 tanks.
Problem is that the tanks that kill me (in the most ridiculous ways) are most often M4 sherman.
Tanks that for some ridiculous reason are immortal most of the time are M4 sherman.
I used HE, I made the engine go black, I did not hit the front...'what the ♥♥♥♥'s are raised because of that.
Artillery ? Yeah, I will just expect everyone to be frozen in place where i launch artillery.
Have you tried using HE shells on it's sides? It's ammo is stored there. And if you know where they are, the tank is most likely to blow up.
And I know people usually run away from Artilery. It's just that the Sherman has a high death rate from them.
Still, tank + rear + HE + ez pen in theory...just no ♥♥♥♥♥ given
I think you have to try APCBC Shells in the sides since HE can't penetrate it for you.
So instead of uselessly spamming HEAT at the same spot over and over, try to use your Pz.Gr. 39 APHE shells and put them in the turret or the hull sides, instead. Especially shots into the side with that type of ammo have a high chance to blow up the Sherman in a single go. Same goes for when you're still stuck with the short-barrel Panzer IVs, in which case you'd put HEAT shells into those spots instead of into the engine.
