1. Select any vehicle you want to make a skin for.
2. Go into the customization screen for that vehicle (you know, where you can paint flags, numbers etc.)
3. In the bottom-left box, look for "User Skin"; there's two buttons to the right of it, click the right one
4. WarThunder will tell you it created a user skin folder for you
5. Now, go into the folder you've installed WarThunder into (you can just Alt+Tab out of the game)
6. Inside the WarThunder folder, look for the UserSkins folder
7. Inside the UserSkins folder, look for the folder that WarThunder saved the skin of the vehicle in
8. Inside that specific folder will be one or more .tga files - that's the skin used for the vehicle. For tanks, it's only a single file that holds the camouflage pattern that will be applied to the whole vehicle in the game, while it's several files for aircraft to cover all of the different parts and damage models.
Edit these files however you like.
9. As the last step, go back into the game, and into the customization screen of your vehicle (if you just Alt+Tab'ed out, you're going to be there immediately). Again, look at the box in the bottom left, and this time, use the drop-down list under "User skin" to select the folder of the vehicle you just worked on. Voila, you have your new custom skin.
You can also download skins from other people off the net - in that case, you'd just unpack the skin into the UserSkins folder and then jump straight back into the game to put it into play.
Also keep in mind that noone else will be able to see these skins, They're only visible for you yourself.
Pvt. Jamison if you just want to know where you can get custom skins (for tanks and planes) i guess the best place would be http://live.warthunder.com/feed/camouflages/ - just make sure that you use hashtags in the search field if you are looking for specific vehicles (like #BF109 for instance)
but yeah
pretty much sums it well
