The P80 isnt that bad, it just is in a bad comparison spot. The big thing people are missing about he P80 is that it is a FIRST GEN design model on the P/F80 line. In real life it is a jet that was issued to active service units BEFORE then end of WW2 (45 were isssued). It is a CLEAR example of WW2 era technology and a wonderfull example of EARLY united states Jet Tech.
Compare this to the F80
The F80-C is an END OF LINE final production version of the entire fighter line up to that point, and is the defineing model of the F80 line. It has over 6 years of constant R/D put into it and ALL combat models of P80's recieved upgrade to the F80b/c models before the end of survice.
What are the differences, well the two biggest are better guns (M3 vs M2) and better engines. As in WAY better engines. One jet is a clear example of EARLY jet tech of WW2, the other is an example of KOREA era and inter-war era jet tech, with mutiple years of refinement. In the end, the models are NOT the same and are NOT comparable.
All of this, combined with a poor FM in game, bring up the argument that the P80 sucks. In reality, and even for what it is in game, it probably DOESNT suck, but it is PLACED in game in such a way that people see it as a comparable model of the F80, and when they draw the conclusions of comparison they say, "P80 sucks".
TBH its not fair of the P80. Comparing the P80 so closly, both in how it is positioned in the tech tree AND ho it is ratted in BR, to the F80 places the P80 in a poor position to have any chance of fair play or competition.
Simply put, its like having a Griffon Spit next in line past the Spit Mk-1.
Who would honestly think that is a fiar comparison? No one, and yet it is roughly the same difference in development time AND technological advancement as the comparison of P80 to F80.
In the end, if you go into it knowing what to expect the P80 is fine. It is a MARGINALY better plane over end tier props, mainly because it is a 1944 tech era jet. DONT expect it to be ANYTHING comparable to the 1950+ era tech in the F80c.
F86s are awesome in the above (heck the canadian sabre is just godlike)
panthers...ehh poor engines and afterburners... cannons are way to inaccurate and unreliable
panthers have poor handling up high and poor turning circles at every alt
Ah thx for the info, that makes more since now that the P80 is "bad", since it's basically a WW2 jet.
Panther is definantly better than the P80 however the f80C can still out run me.
Your definantly right about the handling, it's hard to get the piper where you wanted it, especially when the 20mm need dead accurate bursts.
Ok thx the both of you, Ill continue my RP on the p/f80s all the way to the sabre.
Now that I know I'm getting the P80, should I even buy it? Since I have to research it, is it still good enough to purchase?
Ok, that's one reason why I got the panther is because I wanted my first jet to be good.
Since I already have the panther, is it worth it do you think to get the p80 since I have to research it to get the f80...
The Prop80 is a basic first gen jet, the panther a Korean War Jet.
If you hit the F80C, it'll get better and better, the F84 is..wonky afaik and then you hit the first sabre. If you jump in with the Panther, you're gonna have a bad time. Why? Jets are not props. You'll be facing end-game Migs and CL13s. Lucky Matchmakings will give you the occasional 262/163 games but thats it.
I'm definantly learning the hard way, playing against expereinced jet jockies is difficult, but I'm getting better lol.
I'm having a really difficult time right now especially because the hit detection is only working 50% of the time, and with cannons that love to overheat quickly, that makes kills sometimes impossible.
If i'm correct, the F86F-30 is the exact same model as the F86F-25 but for Japan's air force.
The F8F-1B and both Panther variants utilize the AN/M3 20mm cannons. Without the gun upgrade, the spread of them is horrendous. As long as you use Omni-purpose, you get the best out of it.
F-30 BR is 8.3
F-25 BR is 8.7
