Boston Mk I at marketplace
Why would anyone buy this plane?

It is identical to the Havoc Mk I, same speed, same climb rate, armament, loadout, BR, rank. Just a slightly better reward multiplier, but with a extremely higher repair cost in RB (3,663 instead of 459), and the livery is different.

Not to mention that the French DB-7, which is basically the same airframe (but slower), has a much better bomb loadout with double the explosive filler...

What is it I am overlooking here?

The collectible factor I suppose? Not all event/premiums are better than tech tree vehicles.
For lack of a better term, Legacy Battle Rating.

Some vehicles like the Boston are very old (like, 2013 old) and very rare (or at least it used to be before the marketplace) and not played very often. The Havoc used to be tier 1, so having the Boston at tier 2 was better for research and made it a somewhat fun event vehicle,

You're right, the DB-7 is much more useful with the faster fire rate of the machine guns and the US bomb loadout instead of the UK bomb loadout. The repair cost also an indicator of how not often it is flown, because the Havoc was a cheap purchasable premium for years on years, but the Boston wasn't. Probably meant the Havoc would suffer from beginner pilots and have its battle performance brought down much more than the Boston.

Could the Boston go to 2.0? probably, though BRs are typically adjusted based on vehicle performance data and I doubt there's much data on it since they're rare to fly.
The collectible factor could be the best explanation - fun fact, all these planes have no British tech tree version, Havoc Mk I and Boston Mk I are premiums and DB-7 is a event vehicle.

Didn't know the planes' history in WT, thanks for the history lesson

Collectible factor.... now guess why I am eyeing this plane....

I won't lie the entire early A-20 family I am fond of. They're cool planes. It'd be awesome to see the nightfighter P-70 version someday, but hey, I can dream :catsackcry:

Oh yes that's a very fine family of planes, I am similar a fan of the Lockheeds, B-34/Ventura/PV-1 and the PV-2 Harpoon. I'd love to see a Ventura in RNZAF livery, as they were used in the New Guinea region in the South Pacific.

Most of the "smaller" US 2-engine bomber designs are interesting, and often overlooked planes.

any chance we'll see more early ww2 planes like the avro anson or baracuda? Or the bomber and the fighter versions of the mosquitto?

the Havoc Mk 1 has been removed

the Boston is there for historical fun and collecting. same reason I grinded out all of the P-40E skins, albeit those were free...same motivation

what I continue to fail to understand is why the DB-7 has not been moved over to the French tree

I fully agree, the French tree needs them more than the British.

Vehicles aren't usually 'moved' to a new tech tree. Typically when that nation comes out, if/when those vehicles come available again they will be in the new tech tree, and you'll end up with two of them. Like the Italian aircraft that were in the German tree, or the Merkavas in the US tank tree, or the Type 62 or Phong Kong T-34 in the USSR tank tree, etc.

The DB-7 hasn't really been re-released in years. The one on the marketplace is just a coupon for the one in the UK tree. My guess is if the DB-7 or D.521 come back available at some point, it'll probably be for France as a new vehicle entirely.

this.

There are a lot of legacy vehicles, dating back from the time when GaiJin gave them in much more fun events or even sometimes for free. I do own quite a lot of them, and among them I do have 3 different versions of the Boston (Havoc, Boston, DB-7).

Sadly those old vehicles aren't updated and they have a very low reward modifier. For example, the havoc at 2.0 only rewards half of what the Boston has at 2.3, which is also less than what the DB-7 gives (the DB-7 being the most "recent"). The DB-7 also has the best bomb load with 9m@500lbs, whereas the Havoc and Boston have the 5m@500lbs

When the Israeli tree was introduced, I wasn't around playing WT so I have no first-hand experience, I understand that "moving" was the wrong word to use here. Still I would love to have the DB-7 in the French tree too.

@Shad, I don't really care for the reward modifiers on low rank planes (or naval vehicle) as I mostly already have the tech trees I'm interested already grinded, or when it comes to SL, just play naval BR 6.0 instead. These planes are my fun planes so to speak, same reason why I like to bomb with a Japanese Ki-21-I hei (my secret weapon). And I fully agree, the DB-7 loadout just beats all the other British variants of this airframe.

agree, though I still sometimes play low BR even though I don't need to (low tier is fun tier). Though because of those discrepencies, there's no incentive to even use the Havoc when the DB-7 just has much more rewards.

I also own the premium D.520 in the UK tree (from before the french tree existed), but sadly it is only rank II (when the tech tree version was rank III not so long ago).

in my research, in addition to the gun change, the DB-7's also got a different bomb site optimized for lower altitude bombing. Nicest paint scheme of the A-20's in the game IMO.
