The M8 was always the chinese reserve vehicle.
Before the chinese tree was added into WT, it was only available on the version of WT that was played in China and no where else. Also during this same time, some unique chinese game version vehicles were added to the worldwide WT client as event vehicles.
M8 for USA
LVT-4 (ZiS-30) for USA
Type 63 for USSR
Type 67 for USSR
That is why the M8 was an event vehicle. You can make an argument that there should be a premium and non-premium M8 for the US tree, but that is why it was an event vehicle.
Personally, I don't see the M44 being game-breaking in any way, no matter how many nations have it. I get though that Germany has several comparable guns at nearby BRs (StuH 105mm, Dicker Max, Brummbar).
The Osa in the UK tree was in Indian service, just like the Bison and the T-80 Bhishma.
Yes I'm well aware of those are Indian vehicles. That doesn't mean Britain should have a new Russian tank every time India gets one. India has closer ties to Russia these days than to Britain.
As for the M44, why does Germany need it? If Germany needed it so bad, they could of gotten it as an event or premium vehicle, just like when USA got the Merkava tanks.
Now is the M44 as a tech tree vehicle for Germany game breaking? No, but it really makes the M44 less exclusive and unique in my opinion. It just seems like every update, the lines between each nation become thinner and thinner.
China is a different situation of course because they desperately needed something to start out with of course. They have an excuse for getting more export vehicles than normal. A part of it is because of Taiwan too.
This is a consequence of having subtrees within other nations. I'd rather just have more minor nations with small trees than this.
