One tip i can give for you can be starting to play Realistic Battles .
Along with trying to get one of these WT Starter Packs in sale when possible , they come with a premium that is going to be essential if you want to reach cold war era really fast .
Good luck , buddy .
That being said, everything else boils down to how good you are.
First you need to figure out wether you prefer arcade, realistic or sim. The most played difficulty is realistic, although I wouldn't blame you if you start out in arcade but I'd definitly suggest switching sooner than later.
The good part about air realisic is you only ever spawn one plane per match so you don't need to worry about building a line up for multiple spawns such as in air arcade or ground battles.
Next, you want to see what is the bare minimum vehicles required to traverse through the ranks. I don't know the numbers but for example let's say you need to buy 6 planes of rank 2 in order to unlock rank 3, meaning you can't just say you want to only go for the Bf 109 ine.
In addition, keep in mind that you can't just skip vehicles in a "tree line" with the exception of grouped up vehicles (for example the Me 262 C1 and C2 being foldered under the 262 A-1A means you only need the A-1A to unlock the Me 163).
So, considering that you need 6 vehicles to unlock every rank (like I said I don't know the exact number) would be by taking the 1st line, the 2nd and the 4th tree.
Next it should be noted that if you don't research a vehicle that'S either the same rank or 1 br higher than the one you are using, you get reduced research points. The higher the rank difference the higher penalty. Premium vehicles come with the added bonus that on top of double research bonus they can research any rank below their own without a penalty.
Also if you use a vehicle and research the vehicle that's directly next in line, you'll get an additional 10% research bonus, if those 10% are worth playing said vehicle is up to you (because some vehicles are good or bad depending on the game mode and some are just outright garbage).
Oh and for killing a certain amount of players in a match you can get extra RP as a "skill bonus" (in air realistic it's for 2,3 and 4 with the latter giving you 100% extra rp).
The rest really is just about gitting gud, getting lucky and how much money you want to throw into the game
Thank You Very Much!
While not entirely related to your situation, an example of how I win more often in Ground Realistic is focusing on shooting down aircraft. That bleeds the enemy of spawn points rapidly and often tilts the match my way.
I just play to spade vehicles, getting all modifications.
At higher tiers, you'll need good crews and planes are super expensive, so there is no rush to get there.
Also if you join a squadron and research the Me 262 A-1A/U1 you can skip the grouped up Me 163. In the same fashion you can skip the Cl-13B by aquiring the Hunter F.58. No GE needed, you just need to join an active squadron and you'll passively research the selected vehicle
Honestly, spend the money and buy premium. it will help you progress so much more quickly, especially at the higher BRs.
Don't progress.
Every noob plays war thunder to play a shiny new jet.
They buy a premium and have no idea how to use it.
Instead of being useful they hunt ground targets.
and die
Enjoy the game and learn how to play properly.
AB can give as much or more RP than RB while being significantly more fun to play. You just have to be good.
Cold war jets are super cool.
I have 600 hrs and only made korean war jets.
But...
I also have had FUN.
Thats more than most people can say.
I am BR 4.3 in German air, 4.0 in USSR air, 4.3 in Japan air, 2.3 in Italy air, 2.7 in British air, 7.3 in american air, 4.3 in Israel air, 6.0 in Israel tanks, 6.0 is US tanks, 3.0 is USSR tanks, 4.3 in German tanks, and 2.3 in US coastal.
I've got what I would say is a lot of vehicles.
I've learned how to play well.
I havent bought any premium stuff with my personal money (i have gotten gifts)
I 100% recommend this playstyle for keeping your sanity. (Trust me I used to be a grindy noob)
Also do some custom battles with a friend. This way you can do some crazy stunts and find ways to exploit/break the game. Its good practice and fun.
Thats my 2 cents.
