i just figured it was performance based so i play AB because its easier
ive mostly been playing arcade because its hilarious to shoot down planes with the m109a1, but ive also had decent success scouting in light tanks in rb
So, having premium time enabled or that crew driving a premium while doing stuff helps. Winning the game helps as it multiplies research points that you get at the end of the game. The vehicle surviving the game also helps. Finally, the higher is the rank, the better are the rewards. The more you play that vehicle, the more its crew will earn. So in short, capture points, kill stuff, scout stuff, actively help your team win, etc.
In addition, the more realistic the game mode is, the better are the rewards with arcade being the worse and simulation being the best. This has to be balanced with the fact that if you're not that great in a certain mode, it will actually be worse than playing a less generous mode, but where you excel. So, if you're way better at arcade and completely suck in realistic battles or in simulation, stay at arcade.
In addition, crew experience points that they get by playing a ground, air or naval vehicle go in the same pool and can be used as you wish it. It's not because you gain points playing naval that they have to go into a naval skill by example. So you can earn points playing naval and put them in a ground skill to stay with the same example.
That leads to my last point. Since it's much easier to get kills on ground units with CAS than by playing a ground vehicle, several Youtubers that I've watched adviced to use CAS to earn points quicker. So spawning heavy bombers and bombing a crowded cap point with a massive bomb is a great way to earn points fast although I hate to admit it. Just be careful to not kill teamates in the process because then you will be penalized.
Basically this.
A Premium aircraft is usually the quickest way to farm crew XP. Play the mode you consistently get the most points in and you'll be drowning in crew xp in no time.
If you want to work the skill points for a particular skill slot, then place a vehicle you can do well with into that slot, then play repeatedly, air, ground or naval.
If you want to work all your slots together, then air arcade with a plane in each slot, play aggressively to maximise RP earning actions.
There is no quicker way to earn skill points then this, but you absolutely HAVE to be generating those RP earning actions.
