F(a)18
Su34 first flight : 1990
Typhoon Eurofighter first flight: 1994
Grippen first flight: 1988
.... and many others

F(a)18 hornet first flight: 1978, why is it not in the game yet??? I'm waiting for it for too long. If it continues like this, we are going to see a Raptor before we see the F(a)18 and this is bad.
What do you think of it?

Who currently has the best airforce between Germany and USA in the game? Here lies your answer.

germany and US both have f18...whats your point? "Germany has officially confirmed to the United States that it would acquire 45 F / A-18 Super Hornets from Boeing to replace part of the Panavia Tornado fleet. "

The F/A-18 A/B/C/D Hornet and the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet are different aircraft with different airframes, engines, and avionics.

As above though, first flight dates don't mean anything, chances are they're working on bringing more nations up to parity before adding more aircraft to the strongest air nation

Germany desperately needs a better top-tier jet. The MiG-29G never carried the R-77 and the F-4F KWS LV with AIM-120s is cannon fodder. The Eurofighter will be perfect.

They will add super hornet in tech tree with early f18 as 100$ premium.

Except that the Eurofighter Typhoon is way better than the original 1980s F/A-18 which would certainly be added before the Super Hornet. German airforce needs a new toy way more than you US flyboys do.

To be perfectly clear - no F-18 for Germany - since 2022.

BECAUSE .... drummroll....Boeing.

Anyway. That's how I see this. No surprise.

Lots of problems were on the horizon with the German acquisition of the FA18 and EA18.

first was the nuclear certification of the FA18, the Air Force is in the process of making the current version of the B61 obsolete. So flight testing the remaining flight test assets was not only in a critical state, but should there be any delay in building these new hornets, they miss the window to gain air worthiness with the nuke cert.

Speaking of assembly lines the Growler EA kit manufacturing and assembly line had been defunct for 7 years as of 2021. So, in order to build Germany new Growlers, a workforce was going to have to be re-assembled.

With all these potential hold backs, you have one more hurdle. The Boeing FA18 plant was slowing to a near halt, presenting layoffs and a dead factory. The gap between the last hornets and the potential German hornets was about a year, so Germany would have to foot that bill to start up not only the growler package assembly line, but also FA18 assembly lines.

All of this, and their tornados were due to expire their flight hours in 2030. To build the hornets and growlers, to enter a new flight test for the nuke cert, and to achieve pilot readiness, every single aspect of the acquisition had to be perfectly on time. Any delays and they lose the ability to certify the Hornet with a b61.

in the meantime, F35 was already nuke certified, and the next gen jammer system the growler is receiving is a stand alone pod. So I imagine they put money on the f35 eventually accepting this pod.

Last, the Navy’s case manager who handled the acquisition couldn’t have been more unfit for the job. He couldn’t get through a meeting without offending the German ministry of defense, or every single female civilian employee. He constantly enjoyed discussing adult content internet searches, and belittled the German acquisition team. Navy leadership just looked the other way. While this wasn’t the deciding factor, the German team couldn’t be happier no longer having to work with the Navy PMA 265 office and Boeing.
