They don't look bad (mostly) and they are cool because the devs use parts of big maps for smaller combat areas, but they just aren't balanced well.
I am playing since arma2 and battlefield2 (project reality fan too)
Playing squad and arma3 too i already have the things you mentioned in 2 major nations.
Here we have 20 mins matches max
So for better quality people need faster paced matches for me sometimes i play top tier cause its faster in pace and play low tier for fun.
Current maps are doing ok just like why arma3 has those big maps and squad has smaller maps.
They are different.
So for you to enjoy better i did play with some guys that we ran squad with we went for sim ground battles while voice chatting and we all loved it so if you want that thing to happen you gonna need some ppl imo game itself is in good a place.
