Is ariete really the worst mbt in game? I'm curious.

Worst top tier MBT? Yes.

He was better for a while.

When introduced, he had with the CL3143 the highest pen shell bar none, which was his defining feature

But not long after, the shell got nerfed due to "historical accuracy" and in general got overshadowed by newer and better tanks.

He also lacks certain features like composite armor for the hull and the Warkit add on armor is supposedly also wrong in terms of protection against KE Projectiles.

They are glass cannons, but the firepower is generally on par to other models and they have pretty decent mobility. They certainly don't handhold you to victory, but they're not bad if you play in a sneaky way and favor ambushing, flanking and sniping your foes. But you shouldn't brawl in them and expect to shrug off any form of weapon larger than an autocannon.

If we're talking specifically top tier MBTs, then yes. Challengers can at least say they have armor in the cheeks, Japanese MBTs can at least say they have fast reload, Arietes have basically nothing to say for themselves other than that they exist.
