Quick way to download updates

I've heard rumours that if you have the dev server installed you can copy across the files after a major patch to minimise or remove the download. Can somone tell me if this works?

i am not at home right now so all my saved pages for posts like that are not available and i am to lazy to look for you :P

Yes it works. I did it with last release. I have 3 installs of the game: nightly, dev and the live production version.

Last release I just copied dev to live folder, there was a small amount of patch to apply because my dev server version was not exactly up to date (hadn't updated in 2-3 days) but nothing compared to what others had to download.

what do i actully need to copy? the entier contents of the file? all the folders?

Yes. I have 3 installations.
WarThunderLive
WarThunderTanks
WarThunderDev

So assuming you have been keeping WarThunderDev up to date and a patch gets released, you just copy the contents of that folder and paste into WarThunderLive. Start the launcher, change the server setting under the wrench icon from Dev to Live (important) and your download* will be far smaller/shorter.

* assuming you've been updating regularly

one last question: will i keep my user missions, cdk files ect.

Oh you mean user skins etc? Yes unless you have changed these files on the development server they won't be overwritten. If you are worried about this, just make a back up of your Production/Live War Thunder installation, zip it up or something prior to copy and pasting.

Well tried it and got an 8.6gb download

I went into my war thunder dev folder, switched to production, deleted matching dev mode but when i copyied and replaced i launced the launcher and got greated with an 8.6gb download. any ideas what i did wrong

You should have copied the dev files directly to the live server install folder

what do u mean? i opened the war thunder dev folder and copied its contents (excluding matchingdevmode) and pasted it into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\War Thunder

so i copied my dev instalation and used it as a tempoary instalation to play on the live server but now it seems to be stuck on finishing download

Try changing language to Russian.

PS. I don't know what went wrong, hopefully you can get it fixed quickly. You check on the forum for the step by step guide, and I regret that my instructions caused you problems.
