Haha nice one guy and Ghost.
Yeah, P400 turns worse than a B-25, not to mention an IL4. It is insane the FM of American planes.
"The P-39 series, minus the P-400"
So that's what I've been doing wrong...
If Americans suck in arcade mode, then WHY do their planes slaughter everything in Historical Battle?
The reason is this: American planes, in this game, are the best 1v1 fighters, and even really good 1v2 fighters, but they are horrible "furball" planes. More on this later...
Bad furball planes = Most Americans, excluding the Buffalo and Wildcat, and (obviously) the FW190
Good furball planes = 99% of Soviets (especially IL-2s), and most Japanese (good turners at low speeds)
Now, in HB there are rarely any furballs, and due to the more realistic FM, one can easily escape a furball, unlike in arcade mode. So all the "good furball planes" are performing well in arcade mode because arcade mode is mainly centered around furball-style combat. HB has a lot of 1v1, and even though sometimes a furball appears, there are rarely any instances of planes switching targets every 2 seconds, firing a perfect salvo, hitting, and downing that target before switching on, unlike arcade. Most HB furballs are combinations of 1v1 fights - because HB has no reticule and no easy rudder turns like arcade, it is much harder to switch targets in the middle of combat. Therefore, HB is more around 1v1 fights, and this is why American planes dominate HB but suck in arcade.
Now, something else that happens is that planes like the FW190 (bad furball) do very well in arcade. Why is this?
Simple, arcade allows for BnZ playstyle too, and this BnZ has several advantages and disadvantages compared with realistic BnZ. I won't explain these.
Good arcade BnZers (based on speed and agility) : American planes, FW190, Yaks, La-5 (obviously), all Jets or rockets
You ask, why are american planes so bad at BnZing then? The answer is simple : their guns.
BnZing relies on fast attacks with precision, and making a longer attack (from the moment you fire guns to the moment you disengage and climb again) either means firing from a further distance, at which no gun will hit the target, or slowing down, which means you climb less and are vulnerable to everybody, not just the fast fighters. Why make a longer attack? Well, in arcade some guns do very little damage, and 50 cals are one of the weakest guns (even weaker than German 7.7mm and Japanese 7.7mm for some reason). Weak gun = need to get more lead in the target to kill it, and the only way to get more lead in is to either climb and attack again (sometimes takes 6 or more tries to kill the target, and by then your team will have stolen your kill) or approach it from a slower speed (you're dead to ANY fighter within 3km).
Because planes like the Jets (excluding Sabre), 190, and Yaks have obnoxiously powerful cannons, they can afford to do this BnZ gameplay, while American planes have a hard time killing, let along damaging, anything.
