I almost always fire at 600m, at the very longest shot.
.50 cal's are all about smooth firing and being accurate at closer ranges.
When you are firing, try to move your hand smoothly and keep your full burst on the target, rather then just the first couple rounds.
.50 cals are very powerful when you start to get that down, and will rip wings off very easily.
American 12.7mm also starts fires, I feel like, with more regularity then any other round.
Personally for me though, I find that tracer belts end up kind of obscuring my view of the target, and actually end up having the opposite effect, and make me LESS accurate.
But it all just comes down to personal preference.
