When they are coming in for a pass, cut your engine and turn hard, once in one direction, then another, and right when they slide past, flip your engine back on full and slide in behind them.
There is a lot of things you can do in the other game modes though.
I agree with sloth.
Check this out (https://www.youtube.com/user/GrmlZGaming) he can give you some good tips if you are using a joystick. Otherwise I suggest drawing them in close then throwing down your flaps, cut engine, and pull into a sharp climb. This is a last ditch effort and you will most likely take serious damage, but they tend to shoot past and line you up for a nice shot on their rear. Then just limp back to base for repair, hope this helps.
P.S. don't forget to regain full throttle and raise your flaps back up so you can actually pursue after they shoot past, it does you no good to stall out.
If someone did that I would try aiming for free shots on one of their wings or finish them off with rockets if have them. If they dont get shot down, most of the time they end up getting pilot ko'ed or rammed though...
Same stuff GrmlZGaming talks about, but those ideas probably won't work for typical mouse users. Do you know how hard it is to do a steady barrel roll around an enemy without a joystick? I do haha!
For instance, if your aircraft isn't particularly fast and they're in a biplane, then your best tactic is to not die before reaching friendly aircraft; shaking them is almost impossible. If you are in a biplane, make sure you're using flaps if you have them since some newer players don't really know about that. Some aircraft have very little chance of outmaneuvering an opponent, whereas others can do it fairly easily. It would help if we knew what specifically you were flying, and what typically was on your tail (although the former is the most helpful). And also, the overshoot advice is critical due to arcade flight models making everything more maneuverable and better at climbing than is otherwise realistic.
I've been on both sides of this! The P-39 has a tendency to throw me in the dirt since it can't keep any speed in a turn.
What exactly does "deploy flaps" mean in this situation and how would I do it with the default KB/M setup?
cant remember what key it is (its usually F by default in many flight games). flaps are usually used to help slow your plane when you land but also used in dogfighting tactics. when it says flaps are down, that means they're "deployed" and you should see them move downward on edge of wings your wings. hit it flaps button again to bring them back up.
