Bearcat F8F-1 (with 4 50 cals) shouldn't be in the game. (EDIT: I was wrong. :D)
hey all, I've been playing with my f8f-1A bearcat and I just don't understand why it is even in war thunder. The firepower is so low with only 4 guns, that it takes 4 times longer to shoot a plane down than in my thunderbolt or hellcat.

War thunder should keep the F8F-1B and add the F8F-2 instead since 20mm cannon is much better.

Plus, it isn't even historically acurate, the f8f-1A, since it had 4 M2 50 cal. guns. Not M3 50s.

Under gunned you say? The Brits and Japanes have that problem to but they manage

... have you played T4 Germany at all? You get stopmed on by Bearcats, and you get stomped on by spacefires, and B17s, and B24s....
If you can't kill someone with those M3s, sorry, that's your fault. They are excellent guns, practically flamethrowers for all the people i catch on fire.

Now for some constructive advice: Try using them at or about convergence range. All of the .50s kinda suck compared to cannons if they are not near convergence. You can also use the bearcat's insane climb to get above everyone. There's a reason they used to fight against 163s (which were also wildly undertiered). You can outturn practically anything the German's can bring to fight you, and the Russians can't really compete with you either.

That is, of course, if you are fighting in Realistic or Full Real Battles (sorry, Simulator battles XD). If you're playing arcade, well... MGs suck in arcade, and there's not much you can do about it.

In summary, though, the F8F-1 is under no circumstance anything less than a superb plane, bordering on overpowered.

They have 20mm cannons though, and those do way more damage.

I've been playing arcade, only reason I don't take bearcat out on realistic is because it only holds a 1000 rounds of ammo.

Thx for the info, what is gun convergance? I forgot again.

The M3 .50's shoot a lot faster than M2's I've noticed, I actually liked the Bearcat when I tried it (except half the opponents at that BR always were in bombers, and .50's don't fare as well against Lancasters and B-17's).

Interesting.

BTW...I only don't like the armament on the bearcat, besides that, it is a wonderful aircraft.

Which have about 400 rounds that you run out of pretty quick

Forgot that 20mm is larger than 50 cal lol.

Bearcat seems to be a arcade plane, in RB I'm afraid to use it because I'll just run out of ammo.

Same problem as any cannon only fighter I just don't bother with RB and SB any more cause of the players there more often than not are elitist arrogant pests I know thats not all of them but thatbjust seems to be my luck

Convergence is the the distance where the stream of bullets meet up.
http://warthunder.wikia.com/wiki/Gun_Convergence

By default 400m (1200ish feet) is the convergence distance, meaning that the rounds you fire will be closest at 400m. This is the optimal position for shooting at an opponent, as you will deal the most damage.

Can that thing be adjusted?
SilentHorizon Jun 18, 2014 @ 8:14am
Ok, so I took the bearcat out on it's first realisitic battle mission, and I'm inpressed with it. Climbs extremely well and 4 50s I took down a beaufigher no problem.

Only problem is I use a joystick, and the plane loves to flip when near stall speed.

The ammo capacity is pitiful though, after a few squrts of 50 cal ammo on the beaufighter, I go to shoot someone else down (not hosing just squrts) I only have 200 or less rounds left.

Yes. On the plane selection, look at "Gun Targeting Distance"

I think I will stick to my F6F in realistic battles, it's maneuverable, and has lots of ammo.

I tried the f4u corsair, but in turn fights, forget it.
