This is also the story of the R3. RIP you speedy little Italian boi, you got done worse than M18.
M18 used to be 4.7, but for reasons shortly summarized above, it got booted up to its current BR.
I have no idea why M36 sits at a lower BR as its only real drawback is that it is not faster than the M18. One can argue that the speed to get into a good position is an extremely important, but the M18 gets deleted if you look at it, doubly so if you actually sling an HE shell at it. Or drop Artillery on it.
Gaijin primarily adjusts BRs based unshared performance statistics and "theoretical" vehicle capabilities that can often miss the mark. Your average M36 player generally does worse than the average M18 player. M36 requires a tweaked mindset from the M18 to operate effectively, not just press W and go fast. This seems to be a learning curve that is lost on folks that go from M18 to M36 so you get the lopsided BR placements.
M36 is still very comfortable taking into 6.7 battles where the 76mm on the M18 can drop sharply. M36B can even go into 7.0 matches thanks to its HEATFS round even though there's good options in the light tank variety that can reliably replace the M36B's role.
It's just main pool of players are braindead who don't care any warning from teammates. I always spot and warn them but they still get themselves killed. The false is the players but Gaijin are too dumb and blame tanks.
M36 is 5.3 BR so you will only face up to 6.3 with the right line up, the M18 is the one that can end up in 6.7, and thats whats crazy. Pretty sure any vehicle the M36 hits will likely pen.
TLDR:most players in this game can't catch M18. Then they cry for gaijoob to nerf it.
Meanwhile, the incredible mobility of the Hellcat is a huge benefit over other US tanks at the tier. The somewhat underwhelming pen of the 76mm means you need to flank most targets in order to kill them, and that's what the Hellcat effortlessly allows you to do. You will be able to show up on the flanks of most of the scary targets and quickly neutralize them from the side. You can rapidly disengage and reposition if you start getting pressed. And you have the ability to constantly show up where you're unexpected and harass the enemy. Plus scouting.
