Tried both AB/RB today. American line at 4.5-5.0. Absolutely frustrating, I hit IS2 or IS1 5 times in their turrets frontally and it is not dying, mostly not even penetrating, I got hit anywhere and I am instantly dead. Even some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ PzIV got central mass hit in RB and it survives to kill me 4 seconds later, gameplay somehow feels lot worse than few years ago.

High pen gets the shot inside, tends to be better than banging every shot on the exterior. It's not a perfect answer, but that's the point, isn't it? For there to not be one perfect answer for every situation?

This isn't an RNG issue, this is an aiming issue.

Well, I play WT since some first versions, did thousands of battles so I know what ammo is, and even the first british lines with only acpr felt more deadly and reliable than current ammo and rng, you could take out the gunner almost every time, now there is no such thing as reliable shots unless you play some uptier op premium vehicle, everything just bounces or stops on some inner modules without going deeper, pen mechanics are just worse then ever imo.

To explain, no, gods no, apcr is possibly the worst round possible, it has high pen but only against un sloped armour, the moment slopes are involved it’s more likely than any other round just to just ricochet, and even if you do penetrate it’s subcalibur solid shot, ie even less damage than even normal solid shot. Apcr is the shell you don’t even waste ammo rack space on unless given no other choice, it’s virtually always better to use another round aiming for a less optimal weak point than go with apcr. There exist only a handful of vehicles it should even be considered for

I would say it depends. but the better the tanks and players, the less useful it gets. It's good on low tiers, where heavies are being surprised with frontal pen with almost no aiming from some quickshots. Tbh, I think you have to grind cromwell line to learn using APCR, because if you can just switch, then you will, and you won't learn, and on cromwell and some other british garbage, you have only APCR, so you will curse your first 100 battles but then you will learn to just choose your targets lol. At least this is how it used to be.

Afaik, the only RNG involved is the "penetration is possible" but honestly that feels like its still either very skewed to penetrate with damage or don't pen. But there definitely isn't any WoT shell penetration power and shell damage RNG in this game.

Bruh, then go make an experiment, play something like KV2 and shoot only the hatch, sometimes you will have whole crew killed or even ammo racked, and sometimes you wont do any dmg, RNG is everything.

Hmm, I would say quite opposite, shooting the hull is not reliable with IS1/2, but I was playing germans and russians before so I had enough firepower to pen the turrets. Maybe on the USA lines it is different then.
