German, French and British are good starters.

German: OP cannon launcher but weak plane
French: great tank but at a relatively high br for a beginner, average plane
UK: good fast tank and good plane but weak armament for the spitfire.

Pick one for the nation you will play with/main first, that way you grind the tree you want to end up in whilst playing the game with your new premium.

As Inquisitor stated, first rule is to find a nation you're interested in. I picked German because of this, and because it has very excellent rewards with the nice 20mm autocannon tank and Silver Lions.

I grabbed the USSR pack as well; its tank is a beast and you also pick up Gold Eagles. They were on sale for a great discount over the holiday...maybe we'll see another sale soon. I actually ended up purchasing the US and British starter packs as well as the German Scout pack :>)

You mentioned French and British...very challenging vehicles to be successful in...
