So I want my friend to play war thunder with me but refuses to play because he thinks it's a pay to play. What do you think.

Pay to Play = Paying money to get access to a game.
So no. Not Pay to Play.

No like what it means is you get an advantage of other players because you pay for stuff in it

Its not pay to win. But you can pay to advance which is different in that if you want a plane/tank faster then you pay actual money for it. For example I need 200K research points for a tank(like the maus or m103) and i really want to play it. So i get Gold eagles probably $25 worth of GE and buy the tank.

Pay to win is paying for an easier time in the game and its annoying in games because players that spend no money on a game face players who bought the best so they can be the "best".

No. You do not need to play to play. You can pay for some minor benifits though. Mainly, a premium account which gives extra Research points and extra Silver Lions (all it does is makes it less of a grind to get new tanks and/or planes.) You can also buy Premium tanks/planes. Some have a bit of an advantage, but generaly are not OP at all. Usualy just a different model, early or late build, prototype, or tank/plane that saw very small production numbers.

In a match, there is nothing that you can buy that will give you a bonus to your tank/planes damage. Some premium vehicles may be a worse choice then what you can unlock (SU-100Y for example. Powerful 130mm B-13 gun, but almost every tank you will fight can penetrate the front of you with ease and it is VERY slow to turn.)

Pay to Play? No. Pay to Win? Usualy, no. Pay to reduce the Grind? Yes.

I think it is. You need money to buy golden eagles which are used to ease up the grind on vehicles. That's the problem because "hey its hard to do research, but you can pay lots of money to speed it up :D". So yes in some ways it is pay to win because of the incentives it offers for you if you use your money for the micro transactions.

There is no way it is pay to win, sure you might want to pay to advance faster but it isnt pay to win

Not pay to win or pay to play, more like pay to progress. Unless you dedicate your entire life to the game at tier 4/5, good luck even researching a plane.

Not pay to win! You can spend money on premium vehicles or get normal planes/tanks faster but it won't change a thing. All premium vehicles are in regular tech tree

You do get an advantage if you pay money in this game. Getting parts earlier, getting crew levels earlier, acing the crew, and getting extra crew slots gives you an advantage. You are by definition paying money to get better in an attempt to win which translates into: Pay to Win

People associate a huge stigma with this phrase where really it isn't the case with some games. In War Thunder paying money gives you the player an advantage over someone who has equal play time as you and that is it. It is a method that applies the 'balance of power' mechanisms.

People who have been playing a long time have spaded vehicles and maxed crews. This fact alone means they have an advantage over the new player. If the new player spends money he too can achieve these stats either instantly or faster than someone who does not.

Is it pay to win? Yes.

Does it hurt the game? No.

Yup game sucks ass now hackers and unplayable unless you pay tons

short answer: nope

long answer: premium account time at minimum will speed up progress. that's the ONLY real money advantage, whether it's through premium time, premium planes/tanks, or a combination thereof.

This topic is such a bait.

Its already obvious that this game isn't Pay-to-Play and its even listed in the Free-to-Play games on Steam.
