How long does it take for you guys to grind out a top tier jet?
I was blessed with a talisman by the snail for the F-4E II and was able to grind out the F-16A over the weekend and felt absolutely burnt out, how long does it take for you guys?

Consider that with talisman and premium account, I earn like 1000-1500 RP per minute in air sim depending on the plane in the range of ranks VI-VII. Given the exact values of rank VIII planes costs, it's not hard to calculate how many hours it takes to get any of them if RP boosters aren't included.

If I really want the aircraft, about 8-12 hours worth of game play to grind out 400,000 RP. Sometimes less depending what boosters are available and if Talismans are involved or not.

Your average top tier battle is gonna last 5-7 minutes, scoring at minimum two kills to snag the skill bonus will net you pretty solid RP gains.
Not too long if you have aircraft you are good in, and even better with premium. I dont pay attention to how long it takes to grind anything otherwise I would have quit long ago.
around 600+ hours

As already written, it depends on your skills and bonuses. If you have premium acc. and a talisman for aircraft which is equivalent to a real aircraft, then in about one, two days of active play, about 10-12 hours as someone already wrote. F-5E Phantom II is an excellent aircraft if you can master it. It is at a good BR 11.3 and has good radar missiles. Its weakness is the SRC radar. But if you can master it, adapt the gameplay properly for this aircraft, I have no problem with it giving 2-5 destructions in almost every game in one ARB game. Otherwise, research goes really fast. Plus of course you have a crew for full research. If you can master all this, I think that with the F-5E you can research the top tier of aviation in the USA quite easily.

The best way to grind the top tier is to use a booster item and pay a subscription to double the silver lion and Research points. That way, you won't have to suffer a lot.

(Free-To-Suffer)
I used booster items, which allowed me to get more Silver Lion and Research points. I don't pay a subscription because I have spent 2000+ hours of free-to-play gameplay and still haven't reached the top tier. I am still stuck on one nation.

Win or Suffer, choose wisely.

I'll just correct you, P2W is a misnomer, premium acc. only multiplies your earned RP,SL, it doesn't help you win in any way.

Also, most premium machines are the same as regular free machines in the tree, they only differ in the boost of RP,SL.

So it's more about P2Grind than P2Win.

People usually mean "getting to the end of the tree tech" as winning.

Which is kinda silly ngl. I'd understand people who viewed getting to the top as winning at the times things like CL-13A Mk.5, Hunter F.1, F-86F-2, MiG-15bis, T-10M, T-54 (1951), IT-1, Leopard I, M60, M103 were the top tier, but not these days with ground top-tier being about CAS dominating tanks in every possible way and poses, the extreme instance of the ODL issue + pros seal clubbing noobs who purchased the most expensive premium packs, and air top-tier about half of each team dying to Fox 3 spam within the first minute of a match and earning nothing as a result, neither money nor fun.

Is there a lot of compulsive grinding in this game? I played World of Tanks for a while, and they'd give you these daily quests where you'd have to fulfill some conditions in battles...and sometimes I'd try to do one that looks easy but then everything goes south and it ends up taking me an hour or more to complete it...and I just end up feeling like I'm gambling with my time. Does that happen in War Thunder?

Yep. I believe in WoT it's slightly better: prizes might be meh, but at least there are personal tasks that don't have a time limit, they just remain the same (or become easier) for years and you're free to complete them whenever you feel ready, not like WT tasks that always force you to be in a FOMO state. Even with squadron vehicles, while they can be accessed at any moment for free if not purchased for gold in an instant, you have to play at least once in three days if you don't want to get kicked out of your squadron, otherwise it'll just take too much time to obtain them for free.

Hmm, so if I just want to play around with some WWII-era aircraft, how long does it take to grind up to that? That's not too painful, right?
