Getting the Lim-5P and Mig-19PT to work

Hello there,

i really enjoy playing the dogfighter jets, but recently i found it very hard to get decent results with them. Especially the Lim-5P and the Mig-19PT feel impossible to do well with.
To be fair, i haven't played them a lot but while i win most 1v1 engagements, i have difficulties creating these windows of opportunity. I have even struggled to spade the Lim.

Now the issue is that while i win the classic dogfights, i struggle a lot with getting hits on my target. Since you get uptiered in 90% of the matches, I'm facing Av-8's and A-10's which just spam missiles at you. While i am fast, its hard to outrun anything as the control stiffening is very noticeable at higher speeds. So you either go slow and dodge the missile to then get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in a spontanous furball, or you go fast and fail to dodge a missile due to the lack of countermeasures and control stiffening.

But even if all that doesn't happen, i feel like the games are too fast to get more than one or maybe two kills as my team is full of Sidewinders too, by the time i get into position to get someone, they (sometimes me) turn into a fireball because my Yak-38 teammate shot that Sidewinder from 3 kilometres away.

Anyone got tips for me? I have watched countless hours of videos of people playing those but to me it looks like the literally just fly into someones crosshair randomly, lol.
How do you perform better in these planes which - to me at least - feel kinda obsolete with all the missiles (Why should i play a gunfighter if i can just take a seat in my A-5 and missile two people from space, land and J out?).
And also, i don't get how guns work.
I'm pretty good with the F-5E 20 mm cannon and all the prop cannons but for some reason i cant get the NR-Cannons on target in any Soviet jet.

The Lim, as any MiG-17 will struggle a little in a hard uptier. Here you need to play absolutely pushing it to its max and picking your battles carefully, while watching your 6 like you just pissed off the mob. You will want to prioritize Harriers and A-5Cs if you can. Stay aware of A-10s as the Ls can be sneaky (though if you stay fast you could get it to lose track with a few carefully planned bursts and turns). It may help to play more of a support role at first in an uptier too.

In a downtier, you should be able to do pretry well, coming home with 2-5 kills per match, especially as much of what you'll face are A-4s. Fun thing to do is to turn on the tracking to make the A-4Es freak out and slow down or waste their CMs.

Not sure where you are on upgrading it, spaded it is a lot better. Even more so with the crew updated on Stamina and G force (these two hurt more maneuverable planes if lower). Having flown the Shenyang F-5 quite a bit before hand, I can say, MiG-17s are very underrated and even more underestimated. It sees a lot of folks who try to turnfight it.
