regret buying the firefly (dont buy, premium)
if you ever consider getting this tank, dont do it.

i purchased it because i thought it looked cool, which it still does, however the tank is so awful it's unbearable.
it's slow, slower than a normal sherman 76, and the main gun has no explosive ammuntion, so if you're caught in a 1v1 you better kill the whole crew (which is VERY RARE) because you can't back off (slow) and the reload sucks..

so yea dont get this tank

I'm pretty the only difference between the premium version and the regular firefly is that the prem version has a 50cal mounted on top, and is much slower. non prem firefly goes like 10+km faster than prem version

One thing to remember about the 17 pounder on the Firefly. It only fired solid shot, no APHE style round was used on it. This means its damage is going to be subpar just like all other solid shot only guns.

Research tanks and how to play them before buying shinies.

i was told the 17 pounder was a very good anti tank weapon but in game it really lacks penetration, my shots usually bounce of front armor of even panzer 4s

I went with the achilles, same gun, lower tier, faster. Very happy with it.
Alexandria38 Dec 18, 2015 @ 9:10pm
Are you firing HE or something? The 17pdr can go directly through the front armor of a Tiger, there's no way a PZ4 can bounce it, unless you're hitting him on a 90 degree angle.

I wish I could record the BS im experience with the 17 pdr..

I actually bounced twice on a panzer 4 and then was one shotted by it

I'm not surprised a PZ4 can 1 shot a Firefly, I have plenty of deaths in Shermans from 1HKOs. Just, you should never bounce a 17pdr on a PZ4 unless you're hitting his super-angled front armor and bouncing into his driver port (which happens to me sometimes) or scraping his sides/top.

did you shoot the huge slabs or that tiny sloped part?
If you shot the sloped part, you are a dissapointment.

Aside from that, the 17pdr was pretty much the only gun adequate to actually pen tigers, and if your using it in game, dont shoot at the middle. like what you would do with HEAT, aim at the vitals (Fuel, engine, ammo, crew, transmission, breech, etc.) and after pen, let your shell do the work and the spalling take out more things inside.

got the Achilles and I'm enjoying it, same gun, decent platform, lack of explosive filler tho makes aiming for modules important. Wasnt the Firefly used for mid/long distance engagements? try playing it as such and dont rush into CQC with it
JackoFrisky Dec 19, 2015 @ 12:06am
Should have bought the Achilles, it has a lower BR, awsome speed and decent armor. Most of the tanks you'll be vsing mostly consist of Panzer 3 Ls xD so you'll just stomp on them.
Gunsofglory Dec 19, 2015 @ 12:50am
also been using the achilles and having great times with it. even killed a few tigers in sim lineups.

its great since you can pen basically any tank you meet, you just have to take out important components. aim for turrets to knock out their gunners and then their drivers and then you'll have the advantage

Don't charge on in with the tank. It is still a sherman which means it is crap at close range. Try farther ranges where you can be harder to hit always stay near cover and avoid tanks like the KV-2 and su-152 if they are looking at you.
Gishank Dec 19, 2015 @ 1:14am
The Firefly is an older hull version of the Sherman; therefore, it lacks the armour protection that some of the later models like the Jumbo have.

As with most tanks in the British tree, it has many different quirks; it requires practice, skill, and knowledge to know how to play it effectively. Although the Firefly lacks explosive punch, depending on the way it penetrates the vehicle it can still knock out all of the crew instantly in the way it fragments.

The gun itself has enough penetration power to go straight through the Tiger's front-plate, even at an angle. Use it at range, akin to a sniper, and you will find it is a very lethal vehicle.

you shouldnt get caught in a 1v1, you should be sniping

I bought it cuz its the Wittmann killer. Haven't lit up a Tiger yet but haven't played much with it, still busy unlocking the brit tree. Considering that the big weakness of shermans (both 75 and 76 versions) was its main gun, I'll take the Firefly over any Sherman except the Jumbo 76.
