Thanks' I clearly confused tracking radar with IRST... Thread edited accordingly.
I could always just fold the dish and lock on as usual with reduced visibility, only the brackets would be more like dots and less rectangular. As mentioned, it can still be done while the dish is unfolding (and not while it's folding).
I am 100% positive you could lock on targets with radar folded until relatively recently for a long time. If you don't use your radar folded by default, you might not have noticed :S
But that's why I disabled it by default - did not need it up and spinning.

Yeah, it's kinda unrealistic that the tracking radar stops working if the search radar gets damaged
well the swedish one for some time now likes to only lock friendlies and totally ignore enemies even with the crosshair direcly pointed at them
