I'm going to assume you've never flown any other MiGs (the armament and ammo counts stay the same until you hit the MiG-19). Yes, the MiGs are VERY hard to aim and take time getting used to, and have highly limited ammo on top of that. It's best to rely on learning to only fire the NS-37 when you got an assured shot, otherwise, further out (600 to 300m), the 23s will be decent in helping get stuff. It is something that works okay on the MiG-9s, but gets worse as the average speed of battle gets faster.

The real disadvantage of the MiGs have typically been the weapons. They are relatively low velocity and Rate of Fire compared to the Brownings and even the 30mms we see the Western Europeans get. This means you'll have to lead a little more than you think to get the shot to land, and hope the guy doesn't move when you do. When the shots do land, particularly from the N-37, it usually is pretty burtal, but that is only if.

practice practice practice. I use 400m convergence vertical targeting off and I can manage. Mig guns require a lot of lead and you don't have much ammo, but tend to be very rewarding when they hit. Takes a while to get used to it but with proper trigger discipline and experience you will do fine. Keep at it until you make it work. Don't @ me on that but I find Air target belts to work best.

And as I said in the other thread, this is the same for all the other MiG jets from the -9 to the -17 as well. It certainly takes a lot of patience to learn the guns on these. My advice is, if engaging from further out, use the 23mm further out, usually you end up giving them a harsh performance penalty via a leak or wing damage, and then fire with the 37 when you're closer by.

The guns only become easier to aim on the MiG-19 and -21 from there, but at that point, a lot of the action is easily 800 km/h+ from what I have seen.

dont shoot if you not 500m away at least, and yes - lead more. or just use durst shooting without lead - shoot where the target will fly in a second or 2 and hope he will not roll out of it. they hard to use but they slap like nothing else

MiG guns are hard to aim but also very deadly and extremely satisfying when you do hit the target. I just love MiG 15, propably the most fun i have ever had in war thunder.

The dangers of buying your way close to toptier with a premium: I have the Shenyang F-5 and haven't played any other Soviet jets; those cannons are insanely hard to learn how to use, and the non-existent ammo pool doesn't let you get much practice in. Sure, the damage on a hit is great, but most cannons of the jet era seem to either kill or fatally cripple your opponent with a solid hit. Heck, Sabres and their .50 cals frequently manage to force head-ons with me and even when I seemingly dodge they still somehow destroy my tail controls.

it took me about a week to learn play for at least 5 hours a day how to aim the mig guns and it was so worth it and satisfying
