R-77 question

i've been away from top tier aviation meta for sometime, so i don't know.
whats the AIM-120's range?

Id fire it from furthest away 20km head on. Only at high altitude. It’s a shotgun missile as far as fox3s go.

As has been said, there isn't a hard number on the range of the missile.

There are two bands on your radar scope, one that shows your current maximum range (assuming no manoeuvres/speed changes from your target) and one that shows the range where your target going cold (turning directly away) at their current speed and altitude won't be able to outrun the missile.

Fox 3 missiles in general can hit from anywhere between 80km and 1km
It depends too much on the situation
Like 1 user said make use of what your radar tells you
Eventually you will get a feel for what shots the missile can hit and what shots it cant

No not necessary.
Each missile has a sweet spot, for example aim-7F is less than 20km to get a hit, aim-7E is about 5~6km.
I don't have much experience with these new ARH missiles as I hate top tier missile spam. But I'm going to unlock and spade F-15E solely for ground RB and some info can really help.

I would not shoot it past 40km thats about max effective range, for GRB 10 to 20 is most likely the sweat spot.

R-77 are pretty bad so i wouldnt shoot them past 10 km in most situations. you are better off using R-27ER on those 20 - 30 km shots.

r77 is good but just has a specific usecase. arh/fox3 does NOT mean long range missile

r77 is a great short-mid range "dog fighting" missile, like the MICA. it can pull a ton of Gs and has thrust vectoring. use it in this way, and youll see great performance.
