Why no modern naval combat?
As a lover of modern naval warfare, I was exited to see war thunder's take on the branch, but I am rather disappointed that this hasn't happened yet. How come?

I guess that the game isn't ready for ships launching missiles 50km+ away from each others. There are antiship missiles nowadays that have over 500km of range, you know.

It's simply because first we don't even have many late cold war ships. Also we lack many key WW2 ships such as Iowa, King George V, Bismark and many more. But they will most likely come in the future give it a handful of updates before we see mid cold war large vessels with anti ship missiles or such
I mean you won't see that in this game, it's not usually fun and games. Unless you want to, as someone else said, push a button and drink coffee as a missile kills someone. Modern naval combat is usually flexing with warning shots, then firing missiles and maybe using the cannons if a missile is too expensive for the Somali pirate ship.

Itll probably take 5 to 10 years before we get modern ships

I don't it fits this game at all. How fun will it be to press one button. Wait for 20 minutes to get a "hit".

You will find some people that are just as eager as you, I for one actually enjoy having my actions in a match matter

When I turn my ship I can avoid fire, bring more of my weapons to bear, better protect my delicate innards by presenting better armoured portions to the enemy, I can actually see that enemy and the result of my own weapons fire, react to their own actions. There is feedback for everything I do

Top tier air is already considered bad enough by many players with fighters able to take off, launch enough missiles to take half the enemy team and hope they don’t get hit by an enemy that is never more than a radar contact 50+ km away.

Modern missile destroyers laugh at their lesser siblings in the air. Spawning into a metal box, firing missiles at radar contacts I will never see because they are well below the horizon, launching decoys in the vain hope of avoiding the 50 plus missiles probably heading my way too fast for me to even react to. Hoping only for the rng of my point defences to save me, and even that failing when there are more missiles in the air than I have ammo to counter them. That sounds like hell, you might as well just launch all your weapons and J out for all anything you do after that point matters

I think you and those like you might enjoy the gimmick for a while, but it has no staying power

playing ww1,2 ship against cold war ship is enough

Naval combat was extremely rare by the time of WW2. There has been no ship vs ship tactical combat for 80 years.

i doubt 5% of players are playing ocean ships. gaijan straight up doesn't serve content for things in the game that aren't profit centers

for example the only reason they won't make a CASless GRB when air gets an Air only RB is because it's a profit center to anger tank mains into buying premium planes to be competitive.
Indirect combat (i.e. one or both sides cannot see their enemy with their eyes and/or return fire due to lesser range and/or poor accuracy) is not fun when your game genre is 1st person PvP shooter/action, and not, say, PvP strategy or PvE game. And most of post-WWII destroyers, frigates and missile cruisers (as a type introduced at the time), if they are not already in the game with just radars and HE-V that don't make them too op, rely on such weaponry for indirect combat (anti-ship missiles), and so do strikers with long-range anti-ship missiles, as already mentioned.
If WT was actually a game with teamplay, it could work (just like in tournaments and squadron battles, but I doubt they'll ever add vehicles just for the minority of interested players to utilize in an effective and not game-breaking way), but currently, the game is about a bunch of enemies fighting you and enemies, but in blue, so...no one is going to help you perform needed maneuvers (and do them themselves, in conjunction with you, as an organised army) to use your weaponry in the right way and avoid the team being wiped out too early, in random battles. We're stuck with what we currently have.
