Age old question, XP-55 vs XP-50
Which one of these tier 3 US premiums do you prefer? For me, I think I like the XP-55 a tad more in todays current meta. It seems to have a little better engine performance at altitudes below 3500m (Not tested just going off how it plays). It also seems to be a bit less fragile and also a much harder target to hit than the XP-50, which at least for me, always seems to die to a unquenchable fire, or engine failures. The Engines on that thing are massive targets, that LOVE to eat .50 cals and 20mm shells, I find a lot of my deaths are pretty much due to head ons or catching stray rounds as I do a pass-by.

The XP-55 also has more 20mm ammo sitting at 400 shells, compared to the 120 20mm shells found in the XP-50. This can be huge in realistic/sim battles, less so in arcade of course but there have been many times in the XP-50 where I had just ran out of 20mm, and the dual .50s just couldnt secure enough damage without endangering my aircraft, resulting in a lot of assists that COULD have been kills given I had the 20mm ammo. That being said, the XP-50 does have 1000 .50 cal rounds, compared to the 400 rounds found in the XP-55 but I believe the trade off in firepower is well worth it.

The XP-55 has superior dive speed and in my experience, suffers less from control surface compression, the XP-50 can be very maneuverable in a dive, but often requires superb dive control, resulting in a great loss of potential energy, which isn't THAT big of a deal due to its great acceleration but if you are near any enemies that have a energy advantage while you are regaining altitude, there is a great chance you will suffer unless you attempt to energy fight with vertical loops, which it is GREAT at, but again, a large, somewhat fragile target thats gradually losing speed is a very easy target for any 3rd party.

The XP-55 is also an amazing energy fighter, excelling in vertical loops with its rear prop pushing the aircraft straight up, and straight back down again, engine throttle control and flaps timing are essential as the rear prop greatly stiffens your turns, but this is what allows for your great energy retention.

So what do you guys think? Do I have the XP-50 all wrong, or is the XP-55 truly the better fighter?

Bro glazes the XP-55, then asks if he should get it or some other plane.

I have the XP-55 and the XP-50, I was simply starting a discussion on whether or not others believe that the XP-55 maybe be a bit better of a fighter aircraft, compared to the notorious XP-50 that always has the spotlight and is dread by newcomers. Sorry if you got the idea that I was asking which one I should get, I meant this to just be a discussion comparing the two aircraft.

And yes, I glaze the XP-55. That thing is one of the most amazing aircraft to fly at low BR's, its got very particular characteristics similar to something along the lines of the Ho 229 V3 in terms of uniqueness.
