The Messerschmitt 109 is a high climber, so you will usually see them around what we call 'space' which is often from 6000m to 7500m altitude. They do not have radials, thus they have a rather aerodynamic nose. The earlier models (B1 to E) differ slightly but still have the same shape of the later 109s.
When in your hangar, click the German nation flag in the bottom corner and select the research tab which will bring up the German aircraft. Just find the one you want to see, hover your mouse over it and click "Preview".
The one that kills you from above that you never saw coming is the 190.
The other very obvious physical difference is the engine. The FW used a HUGE raadial engine and the cowl is very large. The 109 used an inline engine so is much more narrow.
The 109 also has a very distinct air scoop coming off the left side of the engine cowling.
The 109 also has a much longer and boxier canopy than the 190 does.
