How to return the radar mode back?
Can you please advise me how to return the radar mode from IRST back to the standard SRC mode in the F4S Phantom II aircraft? In other aircraft, after switching to manual short lock, I return to normal SRC mode with the same key I activate it, but with F4S it does not work and I cannot return to standard SRC mode. Well thank you.

The F-4S has three different radar modes. SRC, ACM, and HMS. When you switch from SRC to ACM, it will not automatically default back to SRC if you break ACM, it'll cycle to HMS, or Helmet Mounted System.

The HMS mode allows you to engage an ACM lock by pointing your mouse courser on a target, then manually locking the target your "Looking" at.

This allows you to lock targets that are not on your nose (off bore sight) so that when you bring your aircraft into firing position, you waste no time locking the target, or it enables you to launch a missile (Sidewinder or Sparrow) at odd angles. Pros and Cons to doing this, but it's an especially valuable feature when you start getting access to AIM-120s as it enables you to launch against an attacker while maintaining a reliable defensive position to defeat other ARMs coming your way.

I know the functions of the radar modes, but thanks for the explanation. I'm concerned with the fact that if I transfer the mode from SRC to HDM, I can't switch back to SRC and I can't deal with it. I get stuck on HMD or HMD PD mode for the whole game.

ACM and HDM are seperate keybinds from radar search modes because they are not exactly a radar search mode. You press the button once for ACM, Again for HDM, and again to go back to regular radar.

So back to the question: how?

When people ask a direct question, it's polite to give a direct answer, or wait for someone else to do so.
