Did they ever fix the broken tracking on tv guided munitions where they track around 1/3 of the time. Or are people still just going ahhhhh it killed me nerf it nerf it?
I seriously don't know as i rarely bring cas to ground and when i do its always 2-3000lb standard bombs as the tracking ordnance never used to work right.
They definitely feel much better now, the ones on the Ayit track pretty well and if a target is close enough to where they're locked (and they've decided to point lock instead of track) they seem to swap to tracking as they get closer
Get uptiered against a Strela and you will die 100% without doing anything.
Not if you know what you're doing and have any low contrast background or cover. I've killed more Strelas than I've been killed by with Walleyes, remember to toss bomb to extend your range by a significant amount
Strella cant do crap against AGM 65, Just spawn in do a U turn and start climb you can dump all the 6 AGMs from +-9km distance and get 5~6 kills after the buff, Rollands might be a problem so keep an eye for smoke trails and if its an full uptier then lookout for Pantsirs
Flying low with a subsonic A-4E is asking to be shotdown.
The amount of altitude you require is way too much to safely glide a bomb to a Strela and will in most times not lock on properly and will loose track in transit so if the Strela moves it will miss it. Not to mention the RNG favors cloudy battlefields these days.
When you fight something like a Ozelot it's doable cause you can enter it's range to drop the bomb for better tracking and turn and flare the stingers. This strategy doesn't work on Strela cause it ignores flares and cloud cover entirely.
You are talking about the maverick missiles, which are entirely different ordinance that A-4E doesn't even have access to.
Where did I say fly low?
Which is good, because clouds are a low contrast background and it means by simply moving up a little a Strela can't use optical locks, having to rely on IR locks instead (which also don't play well with clouds and are easy to flare)
Strelas don't tend to move a lot, and there isn't a visible indicator you've dropped a bomb, so they usually get hit by a walleye you tossed many kilometres away, along with the turn away draining the missile's energy so it can't get as far as the statcard says.
Edit: as above, the TV tracking also starts on point, and swaps to tracking as it gets closer, it'll snap to targets in the seeker's FoV as it gets closer to the target area
No, it doesn't, the optical seeker struggles to see you in clouds and the IR seeker is highly susceptible to flares.
You are mixing up realism with the game. The clouds 100% should be affecting Strela missiles IR and contrast tracking, but ingame once the missile is launched it ignores the clouds completely and this includes flares too. Iv tested this out plenty of times ever since the whole mechanic was added. So if you do not leave the 6km range from it in matter of seconds you will get blasted by it's missile.
Iv also used A-4E a lot in the past and it's TV has the unreliable tendency to lock the ground beneath the vehicle rather then vehicle itself. Long range locking especially on a moving target was pretty much impossible cause some form of desync.
You are also overestimating the bleed effect subsonic aircrafts have on missiles. As A-4E's speed isn't remotely close to achieving mach speed.
Don't think that is the case, since iv communicated with teammates about cloud coverage for CAS.
That seems more like form of rendering issue for ground vehicles, rather then different cloud placement.
Then you have a different experience to me, all of the above are things I was doing literally yesterday in the Ayit (the A-4 in the Israeli tree), and tested yesterday too (you can easily drop a walleye out of range of a Strela, and while it initially locks the ground as it gets closer it shifts the lock to the vehicle, this part is definitely a newer mechanic I don't remember existing)
I've also flown through clouds and had those cause a Strela to lose tracking, and seen that even in a subsonic aircraft, turning perpendicular to the launch significantly affects the range of the missile, it still has to turn to lead and doesn't have a long booster/sustainer like the Stinger does, so is much more susceptible to bleeding speed.
Huh, that'd explain it being inconsistent without heavy cloud cover
