MTI could only be used in niche circumstances so they effectively automated the process so the pilot didn't have to worry about managing it themselves and trained the pilots on how to engage it when they actually needed it.
MTI will only activate if you're below 1200m and you're pointing your nose towards the ground. If you're pointing in a positive elevation, the system will use SRC. If you're pointing in a negative elevation, the system will use MTI.
