Soviet aircraft typically excel at close range knife fights while US aircraft typically favor the medium to long range engagement zones. That's very generalized, but that's mostly what you're going to experience until you get into Tier VII/VIII with either nation.
As a US air main, I am biased towards the US tech tree. Their radars are better overall and they have better RWR sensors to detect danger sticks flying at them. Soviet aircraft struggle with decent Avionics equipment, but they still do well in a knife fight in a lot of cases.
I'd also add that most of the actual US arsenal isn't in the game or isn't available to aircraft in the same way it is to Soviet aircraft. Additionally, ALL air battles take place at close range in this game, so don't come on expecting anything remotely realistic about your experience.
