Good luck getting their without committing seppuku.
Both Japan's Reserves are perfectly functional. I prefer the I-Go Ko. Decent HEAT with a stabilizer you can absolutely ruin peoples day by getting the first shot off and clearing their turret crew. But the Ke-Ni works fine. Similar pen to any other 37mm but at least its a APHE.
Japan also has some fun vehicles in the Type 94 and Te-Se both of which have a solid 20mm autocannon great for hunting low BR vehicles.
Additionally the Ho-Ro and Ro-Go are both great derp gun tanks.
Chi-Ha plays just like the I-Go. Then the Ho-I loses the stab but doubles the HEAT pen and TNT equivalent. Which all works fine as soon as you figure out how to take advantage of it.
France on the other hand has nothing but pain before the US vehicles and the B1 start showing up. French 37mms are dogwater and the 47mms are not much better. And all the French TDs in rank 1 are completely useless and there isnt even a fun SPAA. Just pain.
For Rank 3, there is the Chi-Nu which is roughly equivalent to the Pz IVF2. There is also the M24 and the Chi-Tos. Rank 3 is competitive.
For Rank 4, I relied on the ST-A1, ST-A2 and ST-A3 primarily, prototypes of the Type 61. I didn't like the Type 61. The ST-A3 was my most used vehicle as I used it with its autoloader for long range sniping with the HEAT.
For Rank 5, the STB-2 and Type 74 are fine for their battle ranking.
For Rank 6, the Type 74E and Type 74F are somewhat weak for their battle rating but I used them a fair bit, They are slightly below average but are by no means not competitive. Much later, I got the Type 74G and Type 16 (P) and Type 16 (FPS) to build a grinding line-up. The Type 89 is pretty good, you can long range snipe with it effectively. And the high ROF helps a great deal too.
For Rank 7, I have a Type 90 and Type 90B line-up. I don't have the Fuji. It is competitive in that the 4 second reload often allows a follow-up shot if the surviving enemy doesn't spot you. A joy to play though the thermals aren't great.
For Rank 8, I have used the Type 10 and TKX, both of which have 4-second reload times and much better thermals.
That is a summary of my journey through the ranks for Japan. I had fun. Yes, it was challenging at Rank 4, 5 and 6. For Ranks 1 and 2, they are quickly over so, I didn't notice or remember much anymore. Hope you find my experience to be useful.
Yes, I am scared of the Fuji too. As soon as I see Fujis, oh-oh, bad news. Those Type 90s with their reloads can devastate a field very fast if played well.
Its not for new people starting out. But if you're 500+ hours deep, you can make them work and do quite well.
