which plane is the best?
I am heading down the USA fighter line. So far I am up to the p-40. Which USA fighter is the best for level 2 for overall performance. Like which has the best overall firepower, maneuverability, clime, etc... or which one is your fav or if one has such an overwhelming plus for one thing that it makes it better then the rest. The p-40, p-39, or the p-38.

In tier 2, I'd put the P-38 in for best climbing performance (easily, probably the best in tier 3 too), the F6F as most maneuverable (although it's lower-ranked than the tier 1 P-36G, and less maneuverable as well), and the P-39 as most powerful (I hate the 37mm on those, but plenty of others swear by it).

The P-40 is most-similar to the F6F, but lacks the Hellcat's climbing capabilities or its impressive bombload (although out of your three it is the only one with ANY bombs). The P-39's carry the firepower of the P-36G in addition to a 37mm, and have somewhat inferior performance to the P-40 for the significant added firepower. It also carries 6 rockets. The P-38 is easily my favorite tier 2 aircraft though; its firepower is the most reliable (being both centrally-mounted, and higher-velocity than the slow 37mm cobra gun); add that to okay maneuverability (good for a heavy fighter, not compared to actual fighters though) and amazing climb rate and you have a really good BnZ aircraft.

Don't forget that the lower-level tier 3 fighters will actually get the same matchmaking (in some cases, better) of your tier 2 aircraft; the F4U-1d and P-47 are both great additions to a tier 2 lineup.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. Alot of time I am pared with biplanes, I only win if I am able to shoot them down when I first attack them. After that, they usually kill me because they out maneuver my p40 and p36. Do u have any tips on how I can win during that with out a team mate's help and its just a large open field, no mountains to maneuver around to try to stay out of his sights.

The P-40 and P-36: Ever get on the tail of one of those and have a hard time landing a shot as it points away from you because it has such a small cross section? Make good use of this when someone is on your tail. The P-40 is excellent in a dive and you can build up a lot of speed to extend away as you drag them deeper into friendly territory. Practice moving your plane ever so slightly so you aren't always moving in a straight line, but watch your speed and notice how much it drops when you do-- find that edge where you can move enough to evade someone who has a bead on you but not so much that you bleed so much speed.

If forced into a turnfighting situation, don't just turn horizontally, turn both vertically and horizontally. Which means, use your engine (WEP helps when you are pointing up into the air, then turn it off as you are pointing down) to both turn and diagonally loop at the same time.

That reason alone is why I bound "shift" to Pitch up - and ramped up the linearity by 200%

Generally, whether your plane is good or bad at climbing, you want to build altitude. With aircraft like the P-40 that are good at diving (and not climbing), this is particularly important, and is usually just a good idea for the US due to how heavy most of their aircraft are.

Ok cool. Thanks for the information. How is the p47 vs all of the planes before it like the p36, p40, p39 and p38. Does it sacrifice alot of maneuverability for more firepower vs the p40.

I have yet to use the P-47 in game as I'm still unlocking planes, but from past experience it is supposed to be able to take a tremendous beating and still keep on flying, has 8 .50 cal (12.7mm) guns which tear up anything in front of it, and dives extremely well which adds to its excellent capability to use rockets or bombs against ground targets. Like most American planes it doesn't turnfight that well so you want to gain as much altitude at the start as possible and using your dive capability to get away from danger.

The P-40 and F6F are the only tier 2 fighters the US has, that are really maneuverable. The F4U can make pretty fast turns too, but it doesn't turn as well as either the P-40 or F6F. The P-47 is good enough in terms of turning, but certainly isn't a maneuverable plane. However, its engine is very powerful which gives it great climbing performance, it's also heavier so it dives faster, and the max bombload of the P-47 is insane (10 rockets and 2500lbs of bombs).

Without a doubt the two best US fighters at tier 2 are the F4U-1a and F4U-1a USMC.

Ok cool thanks. What about the p400. I just got it. Any tips on like how to use it effectively, win in a turn fight etc.

P-400 is a giant piece of ♥♥♥♥. Don't even waste your time with it. P-39N and P-39Q are great planes but their BR means you'll most likely be fighting tier 3 in them and possibly tier 4 but the P-400 is an abomination.

I see what you mean the first and only few games that I am playing in it

that is why the P-400 got the nickname "a p-40 with a zero on its tail"

just a awful plane, it takes the only thing the aircobra has (37mm) and downgrades it (20mm).
NICO OLAS Jul 19, 2014 @ 8:40am
Would it be at least better then the p36? Or is it just that bad

the P36 can turn and BnZ really well. I would rather take a P36.

the only thing the aircobra has going for it is the giant 37mm, the P400 doesnt even have that. You are left with a flying brick with a tiny gun.
