Balancing in low BR
Big fan of the naval side of this game but the balancing is crazy I really don't understand how destroyers/patrol boats from 1960s with rapid firing main armaments, and surface to air missiles is being put in the same BR as destroyers and planes from the early 40s. maybe a specific game mode for cold war era ships? or up them in BR? just extremely tilting to grind out 3-4 kills hop in your plane then get almost instantly taken out by a missile from god knows where.

Rapid firing 76mm (2 guns) modern versus rapid firing 3inch(76mm) to 5inch (125mm) WW2 with 5 or more guns. Plus the modern 76mm only get HE (not an issue versus MTB but at the same BR there are WW2 CA and CL)
I like the Oto Melara found on many of the modern coastal vessels. I was a GMG on board FFG-7 class and it was my gun mount. The game does not give it all the ammo types possible also it is a water cooled gun not reflected in War Thunder (with barrel cooling on it can never be a hot gun)

You were on an Oliver Hazard Perry class?!?! Gotta love that central gun placement.

I served 7 years at sea. (10 years navy)(1981-1992) USS Fahrion FFG-22 Mayport Fla and then after shore duty Philadelphia Naval ship Yard USS Halyburton FFG-40 Charleston SC

My mistake on the wording then. "auto loading" guns seems to be more fit, test sailed USS Wilkinson and it has a reload time of under two seconds. four turrets six guns in total two of which are 127mm and all of which have access to armor piercing shells. just don't see a place for that kind of a ship in lower BR lobbies.

Thats because there is none...Naval is the most neglected arm of WT.

You can have 3 ships in a lineup. Ships do not cost spawn points so you always get 3 if you need them.
Blue Water lineups are different from coastal. (1 MTB 2 Bluewater 1 plane torpedo or level bomber)
Coastal (1 DD in the BR and 2 coastal 1 plane (strike aircraft)

It might be the smallest but it also might be the most dedicated

still not really seeing the point you're trying to make here.

People don't remember how cancerous the Japanese premium patrol boat with a CWIS was at 3.0

Sorry I will try to connect. The only Blue Water ship with missiles is at BR 5.3
Other things with missiles are coastal like the SKR-7 at 4.3
OP was bothered by WW2 DD facing modern DD with missiles and rapid fire guns.
I tried to show WW2 face more coastal with rapid fire guns since there is only 1 DD with missiles. And at that BR the WW2 USN DD fire 160-200 rounds per minute compared to the missile boats 40 (SKR-1/7) Missile DD 30 (Bravy)
The missile DD (Bravy) is at 5.3 it has 2 guns and 18 missiles. The missiles have a long reload. It is good for anti-air but loses gun fights to any DD it might face. (The gun tends to kill enemy who are not engaged directly with it. The ole hide and seek. Pop out fire a missile and the guns and then hide while reloading the missile.
All the rapid fire guns are on coastal boats. And they chew up other coastal boats. But they only annoy DD.
The SKR are not DD they are coastal and much hated if your in range of those rockets.

The PG-02? BR 3.3 Crew of 11. 20mm gun with a 20 second reload after it expends a belt.
Another coastal that tears up coastal but is 1 shot by DD
