where did the "basement guy" stuff come from?

looked at war thunders channel, looked in the comments and all i see is "free basement guy" or "gajin forgot to feed basement guy" i understand the joke and all, but where did it originate from?

I don't know where it originated from, but it seems to be that 1 guy usually runs one or each of the social media apps, those including youtube, twitter, instagram and tik tok. The person running the instagram account usually replies to the comments and so people naturally grown attached to him. Then the joke exploded once gaijin started posting pretty decent memes on tik tok and yt shorts.

I think my favourite piece of him is that he stated on instagram that he as a life time of mac & cheese so he won't starve in the basement.

The basement guy refers to whoever creates the shorts on the official war thunder channels.
Some shorts are just so bizarre (like the one with skipidi toilet or banana cat) that people started saying that Gaijin keeps the shorts maker trapped in a basement and he's slowly driving insane.
There even was a short once titled "basement guy's escape plan" but i don't know if they ever made a follow up

This isn't related but I honestly think that wt official is probably one of the very first few channels to begin this trend of official game companies having a meme culture side to them. I've seen clash of clans official and now minecraft official start their own versions, however none of those two have had "basement guy" comments. Just something I wanted to put out there.

nah, it is pretty related, also yeah war thunder is the only channel that does it well
