tank armour becoming useless

i feel like armour in wt has become slightly obsolete, it feels like everyone plays as light tanks with no armour that have 140mm+ pen, and then theres the AAA players constantly rushing you and destroying your barrel with 70mm pen autocannons that are undertiered, when ever i play as my kv-1 (L-11) theres always a swedish autocannon waiting for me halfway across the map covered in bushes.

i just played as a t-34 1942 and got sniped by a truck with an artillery gun on it

I was saying the same. But my tiger 2 just survived 3 or more shots from t34 and is2 in the open 400m away. Killed the t34 but couldnt pen is2. Let me tell you it took minutes to find that tanks shooting at me and all they broke was my tracks. But also tiger 2 just cant do anything to t26 tank or something like that. Armor mostly works on distance and same br tanks. Uppers always find a way to get you.

Armor works fine, it's mostly you being up tiered or facing calibers on a distance or an angle your armor would indeed be useless

- Not all tanks benefit from turning to an angle, some are actually harmed by it
- Not all tanks are tank-tanks and those which are tank-tanks most often won't tank-tank if uptiered
- Not all shells are useless against armor, especially as you mentioned Sweden ... APDS right from reserve level, also 2 huge caliber derp guns that don't care about your armor (6.5kg explossive mass on 2.0 f.e.) and one of those is even below 2.0 with a formula one engine (but sports no armor of itself), same goes for some tanks in different trees that will get some sort of HESH early

As you took the KV1 as example, the KV1 is NOT a tank-tank for brawling. Sure, he can take a shot at close range at times but his slow reload makes him better suited at mid ranges and at mid ranges, your armor will pretty much always hold up.

I've had just as many pens on my tanks over the last few days as I had ricochets and non-pens

EDIT: The swedish autocannon you refer to most likely is the L-62 SPAA which has a 40mm cannon sporting a SAPHEI* belt which just don't care about armor below 4.0 or 5.0

60mm - 79mm pen and then HE on top and your KV1 only got 75/75/70 on hull and 75/75/75 on turret so roughly 1 of 4 shots from the L-62 WILL pen your armor

Since they added arty tanks to every BR and nation, its become obsolete... you can literally oneshot everything with a 80% luck, no aiming needed.... it really made playing heavys extremely boring imo

Armor works just fine even at the highest tiers. Bassically everytime I play 11.0 with my Abrams I don't die in one shot instead I am painstakingly dissambled. And below 8.0 ? Its more a question of skill then anything else. I have no problems bouncing shells off T-34s or Shermans, or for that matter Tigers. However, this game truly simulates tank combat. Always remember the Survivabillity onion. If you are having to "Tank" shells you are doing it wrong. Why ? Because getting shot at automatically increwases your chances of armor failing. Instead sneak around, go for flanks, or navigate backroads, learn to use cover and binocs to spot targets and cleanly eliminate them. If you HAVE to fight then angle, angle angle. Here's an example. A tiger when driving straight have roughly 80-100 mils of front armor. Any 5.7 tank can go through that with ease. Angle it at 40-50 degrees and suddenly that 200 plus mils of armor capable of bouncing everything short of Heavy and Super heavy tank rounds. Armor works in the game but it should never be your go to tool to win tank engagements. Unless your a Sherman Jumbo. In which case go nuts !

You're playing Russia... your guns generally aren't that good at distance shooting where armor actually matters so you brawl where ranges are so close armor is inadequate. Learn how to play your tanks

Well, you mean like it did happen IRL? The literal thing that actually caused the germans to take the Long 88 off of trucks to not use it as AA or artillery but as main tank gun? WhO WoUlD HaVe ThUnK!?!?

at what point did i say it was a german flak gun, but hey, instead of trying to find out if it was a german flak gun you pull the 'cry harder' manoeuvre.

oh im sorry i guess you dont understand what i said, the point im trying to make is, everyone is playing as either a light tank running around like a little rat, or an artillery/flak gun mounted to truck hiding behind corners and rocks

I think it's been this way for a very long time now, I play all my tanks as if they're glass cannons. If you're relying on your armor then you're doing it wrong imo.

(With some hull down exceptions)

I think virtually everyone has access to fast high pen tanks now and if you pay attention to the scoreboard, at least for myself, that's where I get the vast majority of my kills. Speed and a good gun is what you want.


For example the T-34-57 is by far and away the best T-34, I even prefer it over the T-34-85.



However I still have fun with larger caliber tanks just because it's such an event to completely obliterate something with 122mm and up, but it's not as good technically speaking.
