Better to focus on one column for research or research by tiers?
My friends and I just started playing the game and I'm slowly starting to understand how the research and modification system works. What I'm stumped on is whether it'll be better to just focus entirely on one column or work on each tier before unlocking the next. I assume no one column is really better than the other and it's just a matter of preference.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated,

Thank you

If you just focus on one column then you will not be able to unlock the next tier. You need at least 6 vehicles researched and purchased in each teir before unlocking the next one. If you want to grind out one column of tanks or airplanes it is best to focus on two columns so you can get the required 6 vehicles to unlock the next tier.

Well you have to research about all anyway, next tier is locked until you have bought X amount of tank from the current tier, if you do the minimal, you end up with the next tier locked until you buyed all the previous column tanks to unlock the next tier

And Tier means nothing btw, the most important is the BR (battle rating) this is what determine the matchmaking try to only use tank/plane of the same BR, the matchmking is your party (if in a squad) highest BR +/-1 (well its written at the bottom of the squad chat window anyways), said BR change epending if you play arcade, realistic battle or simulator

Thank you for the quick responses and clarifications. Of the four columns for planes that doesn't cost Gold Eagles, do they have some sort of specialty or category? The fourth column seems to be mostly bombers but the others seems to be a mix of plane types.

Vehicle on a yellowish background are all premium plane/tank avaiable for this specefic nation

Yes each column means something if it start with a bomber its will be the bomber line, if its a heavy fighter it will be the heavy fighter line and so on, imagine its like World of tank/plane tech tree, you won't find a bomber in the middle of the fighter tree

Thank you again Foxtrot39 for the quick reply and clarification.

The RP system made this damn game so much more grindy. I remember the days when we had the 20 tier system. and each tier was unlocked with leveling up in a country from 1-20 levels. so if you got level 5 in that country you would get all tier 5 planes. It was great.

I recently unlocked the second tier of planes and already can feel the grind. Took me about 10 games to unlock the Dauntless for purchase. I can't imagine what it'll be like to unlock and fully upgrade the later planes.

Is the amount of RP obtain per game based on your performance? I thought the winners gained more but it seems win or lose, I gain more when I'm actually contributing to a battle (i.e. protecting teammates, taking out ground targets, etc). I'm actually all for this as it'll hopefully discourage some leechers. It just seems difficult to get on the right foot to be able to contribute to a battle. I feel like a freebie in the Peashooters.

i prefer to research one line until i reach a niveau i like then i will have the other lines catch up, but not to a tier rather the same br as the tank i like.

If you think T2 is a hard grind then stay away from T4-5, those require nearly 380K RP to unlock

I didn't expect it to be easy but it does feels daunting knowing how many games I'll need to play to unlock certain planes. Fortunately with the Battle Rank system I can hopefully just settle with a plane I like and just focus on that without fear of running into more advance planes.

I'm eyeing the B-25 Mitchell and might just opt to focus on the bomber and maybe the A-36 Apache once I've unlocked it for purchase.

The B-25 is a great plane. It can practically be used as a fighter, it can one shot a base, and the turrets can get you 1-3 kills per game (RB)

I've only played Arcade Battle thus far so can't relate to Realistic Battles. I know there's more manual controlling and aiming but how much more difficult is it to obtain kills in Realistic Battle?

-No lead marker (aka aim marker)

-Plane fly itself more like a brick than in arcade

-No air reloading

-Engine overheating much faster

-Spawn on airfield as fighter most of the time

-No WEP if plane didn't have it IRL

-Map are MUCH bigger (like 25km²)

-Mission time is about 45 min max

Before I forget here are some guide I made some time ago, since its for mostly newcomer think you should have a look about certain mechanics not explained in game :

Well, if you are researching one column, you will get planes faster. If you look, planes are connected with each other- for example, if you have a plane XXa and researching a plane XXb, you will get it faster compared to researching plane YY. Meh, kind of bad example, but i hope you get it.

Simply put, don't research bombers with fighters or vice versa. Sure, eventually you will come to the point when you will have to do that, but try to avoid it. Also, check the info screen of the planes, everything is there...

As for me, I mostly research by Battle Rating, so I have slow and steady progress thru the game, because believe me, if you jump for BR2.0 to BR4.0, you will get wrecked. Not to mention, if you have 1 plane in your loadout which has BR of 4.0, and others at BR2.0? Again, you will get wrecked. If you really want to learn the game, how to properly fly certain planes, take it slow, take your time with it. Believe me, it will pay off in a long run.

Very good method to research new planes and tanks, and IMO by far the best, is to use Premium planes and/or tanks. Research boosts are insane compared to normal tech tree planes, not to mention you don't loose so much when researching next/previous Tier veichles.

You can get them via events here on there, or you can buy them for Gold. Lower tiered planes are no problem, since you can get all the gold you need for them via Free WT App on phones with little effort ;)

Also, B25 and Apache are great for grinding- and don't forget about the P-38 and P-39 ;)

A-20 is great too, it's a smaller and more nimble B-25. Fun to take out against ♥♥♥♥ as a heavy fighter :-)
