An SPG is a Self Propelled Gun. Essentially a Tank destroyer. Self propelled guns are more of a large or AT gun with little redesign to fit into a casemate style vehicle. A good example being the SU/ISU-152. It's not specifically a tank destroyer, but not a anti-fortifacation gun. It mixes both rolles.

But simply in WT, they are your tank destroyers.

Anything with an engine is classed as an SPG but in war terms it would be things like Tank destroyers/Artillery (M7 priest) Artillery is not in this game like it is in world of tanks so SPG does not class for that, in this game it is just tank destroyers but in modern terms it is anything that is not built for head on combat that has a gun attached to it (In reality you would never take an american tank destroyer into a tank battle due to the lack of armor, you would probably set it up on a ridge couple of thousand meters away and snipe...

War Thunder is so frustrating sometimes. Why not mention that tank destroyers are SPGs in their descriptions if they're going to give you a Battle Task using SPGs?
