I mean the IS2 is a kv2 with better pen and armor, but the IS1 is bad. The 85mm cannon is worse than the german 88mm cannon.
I'm trying to go for the T10. I'm already in is2. i just wanted a second like a second chance ( is1 ), but its bad
Weakspots are the lesser, the only problem is that IS1 85mm cannon has less power than the 122mm and the 152mm. The only projectlie i like in IS1 is the AP and APHE, but still a bit bad like the firepower of t34 76mm cannon tank but with better pen
seriously the 122/152mm shells are pretty overkill and they suck when you fail to one shot kill
Atleast, that's my experience with it. What you should know is that it's not the cannon that matters, it's the shells, and the IS-1 gets some really good shells, meaning it can one hit stuff very, very often.
Like I said, not the greatest. It also sucks because I can barely see what I'm shooting at, the lines on the sight are that close/the optic zoom sucks. However, it should be mentioned that on maps like Kursk, I can engage the enemy more quickly, and destroy them far more easily than they can destroy me due to the long range capability. Otherwise, I get stomped by T-54's very regularly, because so many maps are CQC. It also turns like a brick, and is slow at accelerating and is awful for retaining energy over bumps or turns.
I can't recommend it in it's current state, but I will say it's a nice tank purely to look at. Hopefully APDS will get a buff at some point, or HESH will.
Oh, and that's also the reason I went for it first.. wanted the Chieften to be easy to get once it comes out. I also really want the Conquerer, just so I can take a hit every now and then.. Centurion mk. 10 really is a paper tank with bad ammo.
Don't believe in its armor either. The hull is god awful and the turret is pure RNG. I have people pen it with APHE rounds more often then it should at 500m+. It did used to be worse (as AI BT-5's could even pen it) but it is a bit better after they fixed it. But I still can't even recoment it. Its so large that you are the first target for shells that usually pen the front (even though it was designed to stop Soviet 100mm AP shells) and despite it firing 120mm APDS, spalling is still minimal.
It is the best sniper tank out that, but I almost never get maps where I can use that advantage. The 2 .30 cals are decent for scaring off aircraft and the top is quite armored (still wont stop 30mm HVAP or 50mm though) and the turret traverse and overall speed are very good for such a large and heavy tank. Either way, I just want my Falcon so I can fire 30mm APDS-T at enemy tanks
Shame to hear that the Conq is so bad, however, I just had a thought - do you squad up with anyone? And if not, possibly with me? Surely two APDS firing British tanks is better than one ;)
Ahem, back on topic..
So, personal opinion, but I think the 85mm is really, really good. You can hit in the general area you want to damage, and do loads of damage, unlike American with the solid slugs who have to snipe stuff and generally do not one hit anything. The IS-1 also has moderate armour, but it's the main gun that makes it good, despite being sluggish. But what would you expect? It's a heavy tank after all.
