Tip on playing 6.7: Don't.
6.0 can be fun.
6.3 is good.
7.7 is decent.
8.0 and 8.3 are really fun.
6.7 is horrible - jump over it, avoid it, rush through as fast as possible.
There are people who like Tigers II as they are right now, good for them, but I do not understand what is there to like. They are obsolete so deep into Cold War tech. This is bad BR for Germany. Too many unwieldy WWII tech, not enough Cold War tech.
And undertiered PZ IV F2/G/H/J; PZ VI tiger h1; and all panters doesn't help the case
You should play tiger II like if it is a tank destroyer not a heavy tank
It has great mobility for it's size in game and in order to you to get better at the game you should always assume that no matter how good your tank is you opponent always know where to shoot even if he's not
So play carefully
What do you mean by "great mobility"? It is absolutely one of the slowest machines at this BR. Its size is not an advantage, so what are you talking about? It takes forever to get to the point that you can be useful. And how are you suppose to be careful in Tiger II? Have you seen it? It is huge, it is slow, it is loud and it is made of paper if you consider what shells are at BR 6.7. Lets take desert maps. How are you suppose to be careful there?
And yeah, you should always assume they know where to shoot. So stay in hangar I guess.
All my frustration aside, War Thunder has huge soviet bias and the game knows no balance. It can still be fun tho, you just need to pick your battles. BR 6.7 is lost. Heavy tank battles are lost in general. So play fast, agile tanks with good punch. Jadgpanthers at 6.3 are good. JPz 4-5 at 6.3 is amazing. Later on TURM III, Marders, TAMs, Leo 2s and PUMA are really fun. But they are all demanding vehicles as well.
"Absolutely one of the slowest machines at this BR"
Clearly someone hasn't realized the Pershings at 6.7 are about as slow as their Tiger 2 while hopelessly outmatched in armor and firepower. Things with armor that could match a Tiger 2's like the Tortoise are even slower. Things with firepower that could reasonably be compared (T26E1-1, IS-2, T34, T29) are all hampered with nearly double or more the reload time, and don't really get anything special to compensate; they're not as well armored and not nearly fast enough to make a difference. Some of them sit at BRs higher than 6.7, to boot.
When one compares how much armor in both the hull and turret, survivability in the form of massive internal space that makes HEAT only kill two or three crew members a shot in the best scenarios, and be totally innefective at worst, the balance of penetration, great ballistics, good reload rate and good post-penetration damage, and the mobility which isn't even really any worse than what the opposing heavy tanks offer, the Tiger IIs are the de facto masters of 6.7 BR.
What most Germany players cant grasp is that however bad it feels for them to face the tanks of 7.0-7.7 in their tank, facing a Tiger 2 H in a 76mm Sherman, or god forbid, a 75mm Jumbo, or even an M26 Pershing, is a whole other level of nightmare.
Everyone at 6.7 suffers horribly in uptiers. Germany is one of the countries that suffers the least, and often gets better vehicles at lower BRs (Jpz-4-5 at 6.3 is better in every way compared to the american M56 at 6.7, and easily better in most regards than French or British AML-90 and Eland armored cars at 7.3), but because they get showered with privilege from the moment they unlock the Pz IV F2, they don't seem to realize just how much of their complaints are utterly deranged and senseless.
Mostly use Tiger II(h) and the german bulldog or whatever it is. Ferdinand as backup, I hate the Jagdtiger so I don't even bring it in.
Coelian for AA if you have it, otherwise Ostwind II is decent enough just have to play a little safer.
That me262 with the 50mm tank canon thing is fun for CAS, unfortunately the pure fighter me262 are all 7.0+ except some rare market one.
Tiger II is decently fast and mobile for what it is, never really found it that slow. You can trade well vs all the US/Sov heavies just have to memorize their weak spots and angle your turret and hull and you'll bounce a lot of shots. Anything with HEAT just comes down to paying attention and killing them first, but luckily HEAT doesn't do much half the time so you can kill them if they don't take out your gunner.
Use your okish speed to get to a spot with good sight-lines, then when you see an enemy pop out, fire, reverse. Should be able to one-shot most things except some of the US T34 variants or the IS-3 are a pain. Why I prefer the 7.0 Tiger II; more reliably one-shots those.
Basically just treat it like a Panther but with an actual reverse gear. I usually push up a flank and set up crossfire just towards the enemy side of an obj.
After dev moving Tiger II 105 and panther II up to 7.0, german 6.7 lost its major brawlers. That means regular player should:
Heavily rely on JPZ;
Use Jagdtiger and Tiger II H against murican big heads, even both lack of engine power, will suffer maneuver issue when you need extra bit of power;
M41 for solo flanker / sniper role;
FW190f8 bomb/me262 A1U4 VERTICAL DIVE enemy toptier HTs ASAP, (especially 7.3 room where your whole team has nothing against a head peaking T32);
Know your map. Due to failed re-design many new updated maps are main camping hell hole. Enemy team will do full team rush to those points and start main camping. Organize your team or lose.
Soviet tanks are HEATFS cannon fodder, not worth to mention. Your major enemies are entire US faction(spawn campers, line pushers) plus French auto cannon(brawlers), and jew-51. Britz will be a problem if you don't recognize their weird armor designs and hit their fake "weak point".
A full 6.7 german lineup on Dec 2023, with player has most of the vehicles, should be like this:
Middle/Tank: Tiger II, Jagdtiger
ADC: JPZ
Scout: m41
Sniper: m41, JPZ
Front line Assist: Spz 12-3
Jungle: JPZ, m41, Spz 12-3
Back line Assist: Ferdi
Problem solver: JPZ, Spz 12-3, FW/Me262
First spawn don't care, second spawn go SPAA(Coelian or cringe open top) or problem solver against top tier. Kill enemy top tier or top kill guy to decrease enemy team's combat eff
