You'll find them in any online game, so better learn to simple ignore chat and never take any of the nonsense to heart.
Most of community here doesn't give a fck about ur skill, cuz they are fragers, which means "I dont care about my team or our mission task, i will try to get as much frags as i can, even if it means forget about teamwork and dont care about my teammate, dying close to me".
So... yeah.... Just don't think about it. The only thing i met is abuse for being a "ZERG": when u are trying to kill 2-3 planes with group of more than 2-3 or going on one point together with almost full team while 2-3 boiz with IQ more then 90 trying to get other points. Also, a lil advice: do not "steal" other boiz frags: if u see what ally comin to enemy with any kind of adventage(like flank attack, higher position or anything like that) — let HIM kill his enemy. Abusing for kill steals is much more agressive since devs added XP boost for kills.
There's definitely trolls in the community, but if you're willing to learn, there's plenty of vets around here that are willing to provide tips and help out!
General rule of thumb: You'll probably want to start with Arcade Battles to get a feeling for the game then try out Realistic Battles and see how it goes for you.
Only thing to keep in mind with that is Arcade Battles and Realistic Battles have very different learning curves, but Arcade battles will help build fundamentals such as good positioning in relation to your target, weakpoints (if you're playing ground battles), and situational awareness.
The most glaring differences between Arcade Battles and Realistic is how the vehicles perform. Arcade Battles aircraft essentially perform like UFOs and can do some really janky stuff while Realistic Battles puts more emphasis on the actual flight characteristics of the individual aircraft and has less "Hand holding" so to speak. For Ground Battles, you get aim assists to figure out where to shoot an opposing tank while Realistic Battles very heavily focuses on your personal vehicle knowledge and map knowledge.
And I mean that in a good way. No matter if you're topping scoreboards all day, or are an absolute tool who can't even drive straight, nobody will care.
And about WoT, go there, try it & take your own decision.
I began with War Thunder, I firstly was discouraged & sometimes was upset because "how the hell my heavy tank can be oneshot".
Then, I came to World of Tanks, I tried it.
But something was wrong there, I missed a little of I dont know what.
Then I came back to War thunder, not longer after.
And I practised, I involved myself to learn & to understand the game mechanisms.
And now I have more than 8000h.
It's my 3rd day of playing. Been confusing at start, the UI with the research tree is confusing, after matches all the "You have done all research to this tier" etc and i'm like "I did? Cool." :D (totally did not understood what the game meant by that)
And when sending some tank tank to "holiday" to switch something else on that slot, it often tells about "You have better crew" or something like that, then i just pay to train some crew? Like what better crew? Things like that are confusing and does not make sense. :D Or maybe i'm doing something wrong. So the UI is a bit confusing for a new player. The research of modules thingy especially. Or just my head empty. Egirl brain not handle such manly toys overload. :P
But still managed to get into rank 2 tanks, or 2 of them.. one medium tank and one tank destroyer. So slowly making progress. :)
But yeah, so many nations and the tank amount is HUGE. And when watched then there are naval ships and planes and helicopters.. Just started with tanks, and i enjoy also the SPAA thingies, it's fun to shoot down planes. ^^
