According to the wiki MIM 72 C and E have identical stats. So what is the difference? Why bother upgrading?

E is a smokeless motor = no white missile trail. IE harder for a pilot to detect and evade or track the trail back to you.

That's not really worth it IMO. It's easy to see where it comes from smoke or not. Appreciate the answer

I think you're undervaluing a smokeless motor. As response #1 stated, it also makes it more difficult to know there even is a missile coming, thus more difficult to dodge. You can't see it so you can't dodge out of the way as easy either. It's completely impossible to tell there's a missile without MAW. Plus there's no downside aside from ammo being slightly more expensive.

Probably in realistic battles but I play mostly arcade which, being able to spot everyone on the map as an airstrike, being smokeless is fairly useless. I can see the advantage in realistic though.
