If you didn't enjoy the fundamental gameplay loop 5 years ago, you're not going to enjoy it any better now as it hasn't changed much in that regard.
Primary change is there's a lot more weapon systems available as you climb higher in the ranks, but gameplay wise, it's pretty much the same.
Only way for you to answer that is to try it out yourself and see if you enjoy your time or not.
This is work, the grind fest is real. It takes a month or two to climb a single tech tree.
People are toxic.
The matchmaking is a joke.
Some aspects of the game are a joke.
You can draw planes with the finest details all you want for many many hours all you want, but if the game is trash... the game is trash and no amount of "Detail" is going to fix that.
Personally, avoid this game at all costs.
