Talking about 7M and not 9M
Low altitude doesn't seem to affect the F-16's and MIG-29's at all. Iv been belly landed on runway and seen MIG-29 locking me by some magic.
Notching doesn't work either like it used to. You are better off turning +90 degrees and getting chaff between the two of you. So you can break both type of locks in one swoop.
you said F-16C especially so i guess you got hit by an AIM-9M istead of 7M ? maybe ?
I have been hit by both missiles before, but I am talking about the aim7m here, its killing me far more often than the aim9m
While footage helps, but it's not an necessity. If you have experienced combat against 11.3 and above aircrafts you should have grasp on the topic.
Like my experience of MIG-29 getting impossible lock on me being belly landed on runway.
And what are you using as frame of reference? At about 11 and below you do not necessarily need chaff. All you need to do is be lower then enemy aircraft on deck and it's impossible for them to lock you. So the moment you skyline for them, you get locked.
I have noticed that my AIM-7 active radar missiles will randomly go after another jet that I do not have locked up.
I have seen my radar missiles going for the target then just randomly turned down, it also feels like they work like IR missiles once they are within a certain range. With BVR combat the missile seems to not know where to go or what to do. There is like no point from what I can see in firing radar missiles at ranges greater then 10KM is they can easily be defeated.
The missiles are indeed in a bad state, but this is not a new issue. For example before the changes the F-4J still has tendency to launch "drunken" AIM-7F's that were going after wrong targets.
Once i actually fired a AIM-7F on aircraft that was below / front me with the F-4J and the missile went after his wingman that was 2-3km infront of it and killed it.
Oh and as bonus, recently i somehow destroyed a friendly AAA emplacement with AIM-9L.
The good ol' days where I lock a Jet infront of me, fire my Aim-7 and it instantly launches into the upper right corner of my monitor for no reason whatsoever.
