Heavy Tanks are Useless
I notice at certain BR's heavy tanks are completely useless. They have lots of irrelevant armor since it gets frontally penned just as easy as a light or medium tank. They are so slow they cant avoid a flank (though this is understandable). Their cannons are often subpar with poor pen or you have to trade all your post pen damage for pen. Then even after you trade for pen tanks are angled so much (by design and physically angling) you still wont pen because you can not move fast enough or quiet enough to flank most of the time.

I know it is somewhat country specific but in general at what BR do you feel heavy tanks start to become irrelevant and completely useless? To me rank 3 is the last rank for most heavy tanks to shine but Germany hangs on a bit in rank 4. Beyond that to me heavies are worthless.

Heavy tanks are for downtiers, have a mix of vehicles in your lineup for different situations and don’t bring the heavy unless you are near the top of the bracket, in a 1.0 spread there can only be at most 25% of each team with the maximum BR so you have plenty of chance to use them against lower vehicles

Unfortunately if you can do maths that means you should only expect to be downtiered 25% of the time (at best, reality is it can be less due to player population not being evenly distributed) but that’s what you get for not allowing too many max BR vehicles in a single match

Well you found out why there are no more heavy tanks around RL... Generally the Armour vs Gun / Anti Armour measure tends to favor the anti armor side no matter if tanks or ships.

That said, in WT if playing heavy tanks you usually would like to use them mainly in downtiers or very brawly matches also having a squad of heavy tanks which are covering their flanks can be really strong.

Generally if your spawn cost gets low you either should not use a heavy tank or if you have nothing else you want to play much more passive and long range, light and medium tanks usually don´t need to adjust their play stile as much which makes them overall easier.

But having a downtier brawl in a heavy can be really nice and rewarding (or frustrating for the other side....) also you want some support to keep people from flanking you.

Also generally at very short ranges almost anything can pen almost anything so generally it might be wiser to stay at longer ranges with a heavy (but brawling is just too much fun...)

I loved brawling in my Tiger 2 back in the day, it has been a long time since I played those tanks though, I tend to always take them out as a first spawn to meet the enemy head on, less so on later spawns as flanking has picked up and a bit and a heavy makes for a big target.
