The Douglas is a premium, the Bravy at Rank IV tech tree, and the Saetta, being Rank V in coastal tech tree is rather rare compared to the other two.
Missiles of both Bravy and Douglas need a line-of-sight to hit, I don't know about the Italian one (don't own it) but I guess it's similar (it actually has a anti-ship missile for dual use, whereas the other two have anti-air missiles for dual use).
Douglas has a fixed forward dual launcher and a reload of roughly 44 seconds, the Bravy has a 360° dual launcher with a 50 sec reload (ace crew) - don't know about the Italian one.
They're a pain, absolutely, but their missiles CAN be dodged (if you're lucky and the other player not an expert) - but I generally don't spawn a plane when one of these things are present unless there are already other friendly planes around.
A combined attack of two planes from different angles on a Bravy is something I would love to do....
It is line of site and cannot face forward because of the bridge or the rear because of the rear turret so attacking from rocks, rear or the front is the best idea. High attacks are not recommended as attacking from those angles may not keep you safe from missiles. Be warned it does also have 2x 40mm guns with proximity fused ammo.
Unless they change how targeting works it will be easy to target a plane.
Line of sight is not much of a problem for a ship vs an aircraft at high altitude, such as a divebomber. The times I've been shot down has also been quite shortly after spawning. And you have absolutley no warning. It's not easy to see a missile being fired at a distance where you can barely spot the ship shooting it...
These might put me off naval battles completely, since I have always loved spawning in a divebomber or a torpedo boat after getting my destroyer sunk.
At what BR do homing missiles show up for aircraft and vehicles? 6? 7?
Yes a WW II plane shouldn't have to expect missiles, but they are less common as one might think. In all my naval battles I have been shot down twice by missiles, but innumerable times by anti-air.
If playing arcade, checking what enemy planes are around - and checking if missile throwers are around - is always a good idea before launchung a plane.
Thanks for the info!
