New Premium Account changes
The value of having premium has been diminished over the years, when you were earning more without premium than you do today with premium. Now it seems having premium time will prevent you from ever going negative SL for vehicle repairs after a match.

Seems like a good change to me.

Improving Premium Accounts: Income Insurance

While we aim to ensure that vehicles break even for the average player across all ranks regardless of having a Premium account, it is important to consider scenarios where multiple vehicles are lost in a single battle without achieving any kills, or any other contribution to the team’s success.

In such cases, it is highly probable that the expenses for repairs will outweigh the earnings, even with a Premium account. Consequently, we have made the decision to enhance the Premium account feature in order to prevent players from accumulating a negative balance, even after an exceptionally unsuccessful battle. If your total repair cost exceeds your income, you will be compensated after the battle, ensuring that your SL tally for the match remains at zero, unless you have teamkilled.

This additional feature will be automatically included with every Premium account and will not require a separate purchase. It will also apply to all currently active Premium accounts without any additional action required.

We plan to add this mechanic in one of the updates during the summer of 2023.

Why not everyone? Why only premium?

"Improved the balance of Silver Lions (SL). Increasing the reward multiplier and reducing the cost of repairing vehicles to make all vehicles break even for the average player, including without a Premium account. Update June 2023."

I don't disagree, but premium account does need unique benefits. I don't mind supporting any game with a subscription model that has good value. in fact it's my main method of support for War Thunder, because I hate the idea of buying $5 bushes, $10 skins, $70 vehicles. Me personally I would rather pay a monthly subscription over being nickle and dimed to death by game mechanics designed to accomplish just that. As it is currently, premium account for War Thunder is trash.

Elder Scrolls Online has a really good subscription model that gives you premium currency every month, plus discounts, plus unlocks all DLC. War Thunder could do the same with monthly premium currency, included battle passes, rotating discounts on store items, etc. Perhaps reduce the current premium account perks to silver, and add a more expensive gold premium account for those of us who prefer the traditional means of monetization. Silver premium account could be something you could earn regularly in-game, more so than it is currently.

Bottom line, though, is that this game is not free. Nor should it be. There just needs to be more means of supporting future development without forcing everyone down the same path while simultaneously destroying the game design to achieve more and more revenue.

You have almost 500 games and 900 dlcs to your steam account, I am sure you can find the money for a premium account.

It's a fantastic change to Premium and gives it a lot more value, especially if they're planning on cutting repair costs across the board and bumping up the modifiers.

Friendly reminder to make sure to vote YES on the proposed economy update/submit additional feedback on the proposed changes as seen fit.

"This revision will lead to increased SL earnings across the board, with a particular focus on medium to high rank vehicles. Our goal is to ensure that the average player at all ranks can maintain a positive or at least neutral SL balance, even without an active Premium account."

I'm fine with premium having extra benefits, but it shouldn't be basic features.

Like DLC for games should be extra optional content, not content cut from the base game or that should have been added to the basegame, not losing money from playing the game should be a basic feature, especially for F2P players and premium and premium vehicles are already designed to not lose money anyways as acknowledged by Gaijin, making it a mostly PR change that won't impact the game all that much as I doubt premium players frequently find themselves losing money anyways.

I'd rather see 0 SL being the worst case for everyone, whilst giving premium players some of the features you mentioned to make it more interesting, even though the rewards should be a good enough reason in the first place, just how much they gutted the economy as a whole it almost made premium a waste of money because you'd still not be making worthwhile amounts.

I can respect that.
I suppose the slow progression is temptation enough for people to stop bumming and open their wallet. No need for anyone to go negative, even a less than average player.

Roadmap Theory
Since they are increasing rewards and benefits, it looks like they are shifting the SL players into buying premium time. As Gaijin typically likes to pull sneaky maneuvers do you think premium will become more expensive soon?
xCrossFaith Jun 13, 2023 @ 2:23pm
Premium already lost value, if they increase they price, it will loose it even more, currently is not worth it to get ANYTHING premium unless it's on a 50% at least, increasing is price will only make it not worth it even on sale

First off, well said, but that sounds terrifying.

That's the reality of it. I don't want the overall game design to suffer in order to dictate how players spend, but the truth is the more this game is willingly financially supported, the better it will become. Gaijin, as much as I view the development team as suits giving orders to programmers has at least consistently reinvested in the game and engine.

Though, Mirage does make a solid point about negative SL for free players.

hehe yes it does.

Uhm yeah sure but at the moment the average player (in my head is 1.0 KD) is loosing money i hope gaijin makes it so that the average player with 1.0 kd will go even in the grand scheme of things

People going to let Gaijin harvest their organs to sell on the black market because oh well, they are a company that needs to make money.

Simple question.
If they didn't make money, would they continue to develop and host War Thunder services?
