With warthunder though, Britain gets rounds that penetrate more than their counterparts often, with the cost of reduced post-penetration damage. If you're playing britian, you really gotta know where to aim to deal maximum damage.
in case you didnt notice 40 pounder has APHE round its enough to take out anything at its BR and has average explosive filler and they shoot somewhat fast
but on the other hand that solid shot becomes much of a problem around 4-6 BR with guns getting bigger reloads getting slower
There is supposed to be more shrapnel from solid shot, but gaijin doesnt make much cash off the UK tree so our ammo is often busted/under performing. Our APSD round was bugged for almost all of the last patch, got fixed like 2 weeks ago lol.
As for why the tanks have the exact same 45 pound canon is because of history. lol. British has only had like 4-5 main canon types across the last 70 years and they put the same setup on almost every vehicle in that era. 45 pounder, then the 17 pounder, then the 105, with a few stand outs like the 120, 165, etc.
Basically dont play the UK line unless you want an uphill challenge the whole way through. The tech tree has massive gaps, and you'll be lucky if 1 vehicle per BR bracket is competitive.
You are playing BR 1 to 3.3. Those 2-pounder guns (40 mm) that you are using essentially are 2 pound shots (in reality about 2.3 to 2.4 pounds), not 45 pounds.
And a side note, the 6-pounders (57mm) are essentially 6-pound solid shots (a bit over 6 pounds in reality).
