Only 25% of the time you make it to a target?
I play US bombers, mainly B-17E and E/L. When I spawn, I climb but no higher than maybe to 5000m - contrails give away the position I avoid that. I almost always chose the base farthest away from the enemy spawn points and never fly into the middle of the map. I estimate that 2 out of 3 times I make it to a target base. My main focus is on destroying bases - after that, flying back to base, but I stay high until I am there and then circle down. On the way, I focus on incoming fighters and try to shoot them down (for the Air Gunner Badge), sometimes I win, mostly I lose - I don't mind being shot down after the bombing run - but I'll give them a fight.
1. Progression - you want specific medals, challenges, you try to farm, whatever
2. You are good/trying to get good at killing fighters with whatever weaponry you have, like gunshipping with heavy bombers or boomzooming clueless fighters with light bombers
If you don't think playing bombers gives you any advantage in progression and you don't enjoy/are bad at gunshipping - just play something else, simple as. More fun for you, more fun for your team
The main threats are enemy bombers with forward firing cannon and strike aircraft.
Very rarely it requires 2 missions.
Its to give the bombers made of toilet paper a slim chance at bombing a target most cases you don't get to because of four things. One they don't start high enough, two they don't get to start in the match first over everyone else, three most interceptors will be at your altitude by the time you reach half way across the map, and four your all alone with nothing but useless monkey gunners that couldn't aim if their lives depended on it.
If you want to bomb stuff in a long range bomber I suggest going to rank one bombers at least there you will always reach your target.
